rejected by Wash. U, is it over for me

I just found I got rejected by Wash. U, very down right now. Now I question my chances at Cornell, I feel really down, maybe I should just call Boston College and reserve my spot now instead of facing more rejections.

If you can't face rejection you're going to have a mighty hard time in life, particularly in college.

updown, don't feel bad. i was rejected by wash u today as well, but you have to realize that cornell and wash u look for totally different things in their application process. wash u is still on the way up; they're trying to matriculate as many "top notch" students as possible and they've been heavily advertising their school for the past 6-7 years or so. thus, many kids they accept have shown extreme interest in the school. wash u has been known to have some pretty wacked out and out there acceptances and decision processes; i wouldn't feel down at all (i definitely don't). each school not only looks for different things in general, but looks for different key things each year. i think you have a nice, well rounded application with a sort of low SAT score that shouldn't really bring you down. i'm sorry about wash u; who cares, it's not ivy anyway, right? haha

Don't worry about it. Anyways, Boston College is an excellent school. You'll be fine.

My stats and ecs are a lot like yours, UPDOWN88. I've already been accepted at some terrific schools and I know you will too (you already have, in fact). Don't let a school like WashU upset you. Their process is notoriously weird. Forget about it. Cornell (and some of the others on your list) will see past the numbers and look at you. The glass is half full, not half empty ; ) Best wishes!

my stats are the same pretty much, but im reassured by cornells approach used for admission

Yes, don't worry about it. In the end, it comes down if you connect to the adcom.

That being said, WashU is known for its strange rejections/acceptances. It relies bigtime on demonstrated interest.

Good luck at cornell!

wow, Wash U rejects??

last year, everyone i knew including me was waitlisted, even kids with insanely low stats got waitlisted

I got waitlisted. WashU has really really weird admissions....i found out today lol. but no worries. you sound like a good candidate for cornell. at least from what I know.

I was also waitlisted. Don't worry--your stats sound great. You will go to a good school, no matter which school it ends up being. WashU probably rejected you because they thought you were using it as a "safety." It IS a blow to our self esteem, but hey, a lot of other decisions are still up in the air.

Don't feel bad, updown88. That just means there are better universities out there for you. Wait for other universities you sent in stuff to reply before making decisions.

WashU is really weird with admissions, I've heard. You have stats to be competitive at Cornell. Remember--rejection from one school doesn't mean anything about another. You weren't rejected because you missed a cutoff.
