Rejected Club!... join now...

i like how the letter starts off nice, then is like: yeah you are completely rejected, leave now.

anyway i really just want an explanation as to why i got rejected

2240/1520, 3.9, really good EC's/hook, varsity sports, etc

idk ive seen worse on these boards accepted... mostly girls into engineering - bah

my theories: financial aid, didn't take Spanish senior year (going for engineering - didn't think it mattered...)

mer0723, I don't think it was poorly written, but I found it kinda funny because it basically said "we are so sure you should be rejected." My dad was wondering why I was laughing out loud while reading it. Did you receive the same letter as below with some words altered? (I applied as a transfer)

This was my letter:

"Dear XXXX:

I am writing to let you know that the admissions selection committee has reviewed your application for admission for the spring semester, 2008. I regret to have to let you know that we are unable to offer you admission to Cornell University.

Let me assure you that we gave your application a very careful review before making this difficult decision. Certainly your academic record, personal information, and supporting materials indicate that you have much to contribute to a college community. However, as the number of well-qualified and highly recommended applicants to the university has continued to increase, we have had to deny admission to many candidates who could no doubt take full advantage of a Cornell education.

I am sorry to have to share this very disappointing news with you. Please understand that the selection committees work hard to make the best admissions decisions possible given the nature of our increasingly large and competitive applicant pool.

I very much appreciate your interest in Cornell University and extend my best wishes to you for success during your collegiate years.

wow! mine was short.....

Dear xxxxxxx,

I am sorry to have to share some disappointing news about your early decision application to Cornell. I regret that we are unable to offer you admission to the university. I know that this is not the decision you were hoping for, but please understand that we gave your application very careful consideration. This is a final decision; we will not be considering your application again during the regular decision process

You should be receiving an official letter from us in the mail shortly. In the meantime, I wish you the best. I am certain that you will make a fine contribution wherever you matriculate for your collegiate studies.

Sincerely,

Wow, then I must have gotten the "you pretty much suck and should never really have applied here" letter.

guys the longer letter was for a transfer

u guys are being short-sited. I know it hurts right now but you are going to get into an absolutely amazing college in a few months and have the time of your life there...Cornell won't even be on ur mind. I know it sucks right now but you just hvae to say "screw it" and realize that u are going to go to a great college and you are going to have an absolutely amazing time. It's okay to be upset now, but just remember that you are going to have a kickass time next year.

And for those planning on going to grad school...if u work hard at ur undergrad u are most likely going to get into a kickass grad school whether u attended cornell or not. so GL!

hi guys...I know it hurts now as it does for me on behalf of my younger brother. He got flat out rejected from the Hotel School with consistent work experience since his freshman year, top 10 debater in the nation (attending national debate tournament every year since freshman year), 2300/2400, 35 on the ACT, and 700 lit, 730 bio, 780 math II C on his SAT IIs, numerous leadership positions including Model UN and Debate President and ranked 39/1007 at his high school ... doesn't help his mind that he has legacy as well (I'm currently at Cornell) AND another student at his school 90/1007 received admission...the world of college applications is mysterious but honestly, everyone of you, including my brother will end up at a wonderful university so KEEP YOUR HEADS UP and GOOD LUCK!

If you didn't get in, it's really not as bad as it seems. Think about it. Now you don't have a binding commitment to any one school.

There really are a lot of good schools out there, and if I didn't get accepted, I know I would have many other great choices that aren't such a reach. If you are doing engineering, there are many colleges are that are relatively easier to get into that provide an education that is as good or better than Cornell's. Purdue, Georgia Tech, and University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, just to name a few.

Good luck! I am absolutely confident you will find a great college that fits you.

Rejected;;

applying to 14 other schools..

rejected - architecture

applying to 4 others, already got into UMICH.. we'll see, hopefully carnegie mellon

Rejected - Engineering

SAT 2260......DAMN!!!!L0L!!!

rejected from CALS :(
applying to 9 other schools, got into umich yesterday! (gotta love the timing)

im not very depressed, i know i will end up at a good school.
and besides, i will very likely apply to cornell again as a transfer student :)

wow sockerchick that's crazzzy! He'll def get into an amazing school tho, gl to him!

Rejected from Hotel.

Going to Purdue

good luck to all you people. i know it probably seems weird/ annoying/ depressing right now but a year from now it will seem like it was all for the best. consider this a chip on your shoulder- and prove cornell made a mistake.

rejected from AEM and Econ-CAS(alternate) with a 2120 and 34, and 2 above 700's in SAT II. i guess my rank and GPA killed me.

anyways, applying to Duke, Northwestern, JHU, WashU, USC, UMich, NYU, URochester, Vandy, and Emory

Rejected from CALS. Legacy student with 31 ACT, 750 Bio-M SAT, 3.5 gpa. Applied to 14 other schools as well.

Rejected...have no idea why... i was shocked
I WILL prove Cornell wrong...they made a mistake and my goal is to prove them wrong...anyone else with me?

if you made the waiting list do they tell you that in your letter or do all rejects make teh waiting list? sorry if that's a stupid question.....

Nope. Some people are rejected out right and some are waitlisted.

Ya it will tell u if ur waitlisted. ED decisions are: rejected, defered, accepted. RD decisions are: Rejected, waitlisted, accepted, given the option of a guaranteed transfer which is complicated. Any of these decisions would be spelled out in the letter.
