Dont listen to the naysayers. Being rejected by a top 10 is NOT a bad thing. Fewer than 10% get in, even with OUTSTANDING stats and scores. Its a lottery. Move on.

Now…about you and your goals. First, there is plenty of time, though you need to focus.

Your gpa raw score is not the best…but in light of the AP’s its fine. Colleges love B students in AP courses.

Focus on second tier schools. From top 25-75. THOSE schools will scoop you up so fast its not funny.

PRESTIGE, by the way, is highly overrated. Focus instead on your goals and ambitions.

FIT. FIT. And MORE FIT. How do you fit? Academically, socially, financially, geographically, program wise, challenge wise, facilities wise…on and on. YOU decide.

Make your list. 6-8 schools. Make it THIS weekend. (Get Barrons or Petersens Directory).

Do Common App to most of them if you can. Get your materials to the Guidance Counselor at your H.S. and recommendation forms to your teachers.

Suggestions? If you want a superb quality education, pretty campus, outstanding internships and job market, likely excellent financial aid or scholarships, and just a lot of fun, plus diversity, challenge, and a very middle of the road student body (neither left wing nor right wing extremists), with Division 1-A sports and club sports galore…

Look at Fordham.

Your list is fine. You will get in to several of them, likely. But you do need a few more matches and a few less reaches.

Congrats on your accomplishments. DONT BE CONFUSED OR DOWN ON YOURSELF. Its no fun getting rejected or deferred. But tens of millions get the same response. Truly. So move on, shrug and focus on your future.

Put a check on (as in think about) your prestige notions. Its the second tier schools where kids are often the most successful in college, happiest and most well adjusted (as in not frenzied and neurotic and self obsessed.)

Life is full of disappointments and challenges. Those who LEARN from them are the ones who are most successful in life (and not always just with money.)
