I really think I should be at Vanderbilt ...
Can anyone explain the appeals process to me?
Is it even worth it?
I am willing to do anything and everything to be at Vandy next year. I just can't even imagine spending my 4 years elsewhere...any advice?

It will be an uphill battle but it can't hurt

Are you still in the regular admission applicant pool; is there no hope that you will get accepted in April? In the meantime, I would talk to your guidance counselor at high school to develop the best plan to appeal. And if you still do not get in, there is always the transfer process for you next year.

Ya fight 4 it dude, you have nothing to lose!

i'm pretty sure i was rejected not deferred...also, does anyone know how hard it is to get in if you are a transfer?

samdub23,

I am so sorry to hear that you were rejected; my d got one of those letters and it really hurt. I will give you some good news though. My son was a fall transfer in 2005 and he was in a group of at least 60 other sophomores. They had their own orientation, all had dorm assignments and some were even rooming together. My son had worked hard his freshman year, had an awesome gpa, and had a fair amount of college extracurricular activities.

You are smart to try an appeal. But if that doesn't get you accepted for this year, work hard on your grades as a freshman, get involved in your school and you will either set yourself up to be a Vandy transfer or you will find that you enjoy your college more than you expected. It should be a win-win for you.

Thanks for the encouraging words! I am scared about transferring because I fear that everyone will already have a group of friends and I will just be thrown into everything mid-swing. Everyone will already be established in a sorority and everything...I just don't know about transferring...it scares me. I will definitley work hard though because I have a feeling I will end up wanting to transfer. Thanks!

Ya, I hate to say it but I kind of agree with your arguement that, as a girl you will be slightly outcasted at first as greek life and sorority cliques play a huge part at Vandy, especially for girls. Thats not to say that you won't find your place eventually, because you will i'm sure. But try to appeal (best choice), and if you still don't make it you should try to transfer if you're not pleased with your other school, but just be aware of the previuosly stated fact.

Sororities with spots available participate in open rush during the fall semester. I am aware of at least 4 houses that took girls during that period this past fall and I know some were transfers. You can find a place in greek life as a transfer. GPA requirements are increasing, but if you have the kind of grades needed to be a transfer admit, you should be fine.
