Rejected EDII?

So I got my rejection letter today. The news is crushing. Anything else - being deferred or wait-listed - would have been better than a flat out rejection.

So now I have another month to wait for regular decision. Joy. Pomona was my number one choice by far.

Anyone else get a response from Pomona?

Seriously?

That's suprising. I called the Admissions Office and the lady at the front desk told me that they were still deciding. I'm hoping she is wrong because I really want to know! Does anyone else know when they were sent?

I'm really sorry, that's terrible . . . I feel, I really do. Hugs, and good luck with your other choices.

I haven't gotten anything yet. Where are you located in the country? I'm out here in the Midwest.

Im on the east coast nothing here yet.

Channel - don't take it personally. This year is absolutely insane with the number of perfectly qualified applicants. Unfortunately a lot of very, very good students will not get into their first choice.

More importantly, you gotta understand that in the long run it doesn't matter that much. I know at the time, it seems huge. But truth is, your success in life depends on you, not on your school. You're already a winner if you were qualified to apply to Pomona. You'll continue to grow wherever you go to college.

. . . and then you'll be an adult - but that's another story -;) All the best.

My letter was dated Monday, February 11. Maybe they sent out the rejections early. I live in southern California, so it's no wonder that I got my letter so quickly.

Thank you for the kind words. I really should view this more in perspective. I probably will feel a lot better about this by the time RD letters roll out next month.

Of course this is true. You can make anything out of yourself from anywhere but I feel a top school provides more motivation and connections in the long run. He still has many top schools on his list he can get into though.'

How long until people in NY get their results?

Just to reitterate, my son is at Pomona and has had a top education. My daughter did not get into her 1st choice school, Pomona and recieved no money at her 2nd choice. She is at the honors college at her state school. Both kids are extremely happy now, my daughter is a jr, my son a senior. Both are planning to get their doctrate and initially it felt very disappointing to my daughter. She has done extremely well, has a 3.9 GPA, good research experiences, a related job in her field . So feel the sadness but know it will soon be unimportant and you will end up where you should be and will have amazing experiences and opportunities! I actually believe there are people you are supposed to meet and experiences you are meant to have at a different college.I wish you the very best!!

My condolences, channel. But, as others have said, it's not the end of the world.

I agree that "top" schools can give you an edge because you're surrounded by motivated peers who will challenge you. But-- Pomona is not the only "top" school.

Best of luck with your RD apps. Come back and post your acceptances on this thread when you get them in April!

channel_26, I can't really add onto anything here, but as someone who was deferred from her top school ED - and trust me when I say there is little chance they'll accept me now - that as much as you love Pomona, and probably will still for a while, RD is going to feel AWESOME and you'll realize how much the world can offer without going to one particular school. Good luck with RD!

i got deferred too...
but on the bright side, now i think i will have more options to choose from and more time to think...

Aww...I'm sorry!

But remember - it's their loss more than it's yours. I'm sure you'll have many great choices come April. be sure to let us know how things turn out!

rejected too...

i still have 12 schools i am waiting on (rpi, princeton, yale, stanford, brown , cornell, columbia, hunter , boston college, duke, uva)

i doubt ill egt into any after this rejection

collegehopeful, you WILL go to college and you will be happy at the college that you choose.

It is Pomona's loss that they did not accept you. There will be moments later in your life when a "dream" job might go to someone else. It happened to me several times, but it did not mean that I was a loser. There was always a place where my skills and talents were appreciated. Cheer up, because life goes on.

Sending you virtual hugs.

Deferral...

I'm kind of bummed, but if it's supposed to work out then it will right? Does anyone have any advice?

I'm sorry to hear about the rejections.

Catsushi - We're both in the same boat :)

Well I am really hoping for duke, cornell or uva now.

Pomona's is just one adcom; they're not talking to each other. Don't take your Pomona rejection as the predetermined path to rejection! I'm trying to remind myself of the same (I was rejected ED I from Hav.).

I was rejected too :( oh well I'm sorry Pomona won't get a chance to have me as a student.

I'm so sorry about the rejections, collegehopeful and AbateTheFeeling. Especially on Valentine's day, too! But don't worry, there are other colleges that are willing to show some love for you. Don't give up!

Woohoo, Skyhawk, we should start a club!

Yeah.. being rejected from Stanford or Harvard should not have any indication of pomona and visa-versa because they are too TOTALLY different schools, both looking for different qualities in their applicants
