Rejected everywhere!

Well, I just found out that I have been rejected by all five schools I applied to (Berkeley, Caltech, MIT, Stanford, and UCLA). I don’t think I’m a phenomenal student by any means, but I thought I would get into at least one. Oh well :frowning:

bboy, I'm sorry to hear this, but I don't see a safety or even a match school on this list (UCLA was quite difficult this year). I suggest you start contacting colleges to see if they will still take applications. At some point in May, the NACAC website will post a list of colleges still accepting applications.

Those are all very tough schools. What are your stats? You ought to have picked at least one safety.

Alright, so you were rejected. What will you do next fall?

Judging by his stats:
-1530 SAT (760M 770V)
-750 Math IIC, 740 Writing, 740 Bio
-3.7 uw GPA
-Will have taken 9 APs upon completion of high school (4 this year)
-President of NHS
-Varsity Basketball
-Coached Elementary Soccer and Basketball Teams
-MUN

I would've expected him to get in at at least one of those schools, though you should always have a safety or two.

hey, me too. i applied to 11 though and got into 6, two of which i do want to go to but i got rejected by 5 as well. it seems that everybody in my school is getting rejected also, i don't understand it..

I am sorry to hear about what you are going through. Your stats are wonderful. However, none of those colleges are sure shots for anyone.

Please talk to your guidance counselor ASAP. The GC should be able to help you get into a college. There are many colleges that would welcome someone with your outstanding academics and ECs. This includes places where you would be happy and proud to go to.

A similar thing happened to one of my best friends in college. She had excellent stats, and an excellent GC, but somehow was rejected everywhere, including to what she thought was her safety. The GC got her into a small, well regarded liberal arts college that was happy to have her. My friend thrived there even though she had never heard of the college before. She ended up majoring in geology -- a field she'd never before considered, but the field was one of the college's strengths. She went to grad school afterward and works happily as a geologist.

Do also keep in mind someone else's post that as of early May, NACAC will post a list of colleges that still have openings. There also are plenty of colleges that have not yet closed admissions. There really is lots of hope for you.

I would travel or something for a year and try again, this time with a safety thrown in! Why go to some lesser school with yiour stats? You clearly need to beef up the app!!

Luckily, I didn't take my guidance counselers advice, and knowing that admissions to these colleges is a tossup, I applied to some schools in Canada. He told me not to worry, with my stats I'll get into oe those US universities for sure, dont bother about Canada. The Canadian schools make their decisions a lot later, though.

I still suggest that you get some US colleges as back-up. You need to have some options ASAP.

You're the second cnadian this happened to. Do the counselors in Canada just not get it?

Out of state for UC's is very difficult, Stanford is very random (and I'm convinced it helps if your school has a 'relationship' with them), and MIT and CALTech are extreme longshots for everyone and you need to have some really outstanding qualification.

But like, Northstarmom says, there are many other quality colleges where you will be highly desirable.

CalTech is such an extreme reach for virtually everyone that one year every person in the freshman class had an 800 on one of the math SAT IIs.

apply to university of michigan.......this happened to someone at my school last year....and he talked to the people at umich, and coz he was a great student, they let him in!
and look into other schools with rolling admissions, like Penn State.
Trust me, even though the deadline is Past, TURN in your app online anyway, and call them up and HOPE.

this is why people need safety schools.

i'm really sorry to hear that bboy_skinnylegs, i'm sure there are still colleges accepting applications (right?), i'm sure they would love to take you. but all those schools you applied to are VERY competitive. your counselor or parents, or somebody should have told you to apply to a couple safeties because as you know, college admissions can be very unpredictable and you never know what could happen...

yea, i know how you feel. rejected from Wellesley, UCLA, UCSD, UC Berkeley, and most likely from usc. I had a 1280 for SAT1 and a 3.83 gpa uw. I thought i had a good chance for ucsd. guess not. After i got rejected from ucsd, i spent one day crying about it and then i caught a cold for one week. But now i'm feeling a lot better. communtiy college, here i come! I'm going to transfer. btw community college was my safety school. with your stats i'm sure you'll get into a great college. Don't worry too much about it. There's always transferring. And of course there is grad school.

Travel or work for a few months...talk then to General studies at Columbia and explain your case...I believe they do admit "special cases" students who have been away from school for a reason. Your reason is good enough. You have amazing stats. Revise all essays. Maybe the problem is not in the stats. GS at Columbia includes mature students, transfers etc. It is a great school. Diploma is the same than CC because courses are the same. Good luck!
