This week… was a nightmare. First I got rejected from WashU, then Hopkins, and now Boston University (which surprised me). Now I’m worried because I also applied to Brown, Penn, Georgetown and a couple other more selective schools…Feeling very hopeless…
What are your safety schools? Have you heard back from them yet?
?
You provided no scores, no GPA, no list of safety schools. How could we possibly know?
I applied to safeties George Washington University and Longwood, and got accepted to Longwood a while ago, but haven’t heard from GW yet. GPA: 4.4, ACT 31, SAT 1370 (new)… I know my scores are low, but I thought they at least qualified for BU. Worked pretty hard on my essays too. Hmm
Are you OK going to Longwood? Are you interested in now applying to other schools that would be considered true safeties? Wouldn’t consider GWU in the safety category I’m afraid.
You were competitive for BU, the issue is they get so many applications - last yr over 50,000!. So they reject many more kids with your similar stats then they can accept. You are competitive for GW, but because of the numbers of applicants they get, you really can’t call it a safety, but you certainly do have a shot there.
As of right now it sounds like you’ve been accepted to Longwood and have a decent shot at GW. The rest are super reachy based on your stats and I wouldn’t count on any of them coming through, though there could be s surprise acceptance.
You should probably give some thought to what you will do if GW is not an acceptance. Are you happy with Longwood? You must have had a reason for applying there. If not, there is a list of schools that comes out later In the spring that lists schools that still have openings. In the past couple years there have been some good schools on that list.
No matter what happens, all is not lost. You don’t need to go to a highly selective school to get a good education and have a successful career.
You got into Longwood. Why would all hope be lost?
You are catastrophizing. Please stop.

Not sure why you would think GWU is a safety. a match, maybe, but not a safety.
WashU and JHU were high reaches for you. Disappointing but you weren’t surprised, were you?
What are your parents saying about paying for college? How much will they pay each year?
@avu017 Don’t feel bad about BU. They got over 60,000 applications this year and had a 24.7% acceptance rate RD/ I Got denied too. I think you have a great shot at GW and definitely let us know what happens. Back to the question: All hope is NOT lost.
I hate this phrase, but I think it applies to you pretty well. You get out of college for what you make out of it. You can succeed at ANY college you go to, be it a large state school or an ivy league. Just keep your GPA, ecs up in college.
I wish you the best of luck on the rest of your applications
I am always surprised at anyone thinking GW is a safety. Sorry you are feeling down. Anyway, are you a URM? If not, you might want to think about waiting to see what colleges still have spots available when the NACAC list comes out on May 1 or so. That is, if you don’t want to attend the college you got into and don’t get in anywhere else. Some of the colleges are really good. Or take a gap year and try again next fall.
@avu017 - do you have a question?
So sorry that You are in this situation, but try and stay positive. Your grades and test scores are very good, but your list is way too ‘top heavy’ with schools that have very low acceptance rates. Someone should have been telling you this all along. There are many other schools that would be really happy to welcome a student with your stats, but probably not for the fall. Talk to your GC and your parents right away. Transferring, doing a first semester abroad or taking a gap year are all great options if you don’t get into any of the schools on your list. If you do revisit this please look for a new set of schools with a focus on fit, not prestige.
Best of luck for GW!
Thank you, @acron611 and best of luck to you as well. Thanks everyone else for all the positive advice. Rejection is hard, but you move on.
@avu017 NP We 2017 applicants have to help eachother lol. Definitely let me know what happens.
ACCEPTED TO MY 1ST CHOICE CORNELL UNIVERSITY!!! Don’t lose hope!!!
