soo.. this year i applied to bti cornell, garcia mrsec, roswell park cancer institue summer internship, baylor summer science research program, and ssp.

anddddd....

i only got into garcia mrsec.

of course i'm not disappointed as it was the one i wanted to (my parents cough) go to the most, but not getting accepted at any other summer program i applied to kind of makes me doubt my ermmm intellectual skills. and next year, when the college application process starts (joy) i wonder if i won't get into any top schools that i want to go to. so, what's your input? i mean, doesn't your ability to be accepted into a highly selective summer program say something about your actual chances at getting accepted into a highly selective college?

i'm young, i'm naiive, i'm lost, and i'm doubting myself... what do i do?

Don’t worry. First of all, some of these programs are more competitive than Harvard admissions. Second of all, Garcia will be a big boost to your application.

Are you kidding me?
MRSEC will help you kill wpp wise because you actullay use youyr project for intel. you are not stupid at all.

Does anyone know if HCSSiM has sent admission for summer 2010 yet? We are getting worried that we have not heard back from them!

thanks to everyone that replied =]

i was worried because math/science/grades aren’t my total forte, and i thought my essays would make up for it because that’s what i’m good at, writing… nothing else really…

and knowing that even my essays may not even be able to save me from the whole competitive atmosphere of college apps kind of scares me… so thanks again. i’m somewhat mollified haha :)

lol you have no idea how many math/science people want to have the essay-writing skills to write a kickass personal statement.
Garcia is one of the most well-known/competitive science program out there…You’re already one of the elitist bunch that top schools will seek after next spring =]

Well, garcia is a great program. During MIT CPW last week, I met 5 or so people who had been part of garcia/simons the year before.

Also, to show that summer program rejections don’t mean you aren’t a strong applicant for college admissions, I got rejected from almost all the summer programs I applied to last year (Cornell Nanobiotech, Simons, Roswell Park, MBIL (I think the acronym was pretty close to this, but I forgot), Baylor, and maybe a few more) except for a local program that I had to pay for. However, this year, I got accepted to Yale, MIT, Caltech, Penn, Columbia, Brown, Cornell, U Chicago, Northwestern HPME, Duke, WUSTL, etc.
