Hey guys.. I'm slightly concerned about what I'm going to do for the next year. Here are my application statuses to all the UCs:

Davis - Waitlisted
Santa Cruz - Rejected; Appeal sent in
Merced - Rejected
Irvine - Rejected
Santa Barbara - Rejected
Riverside - Rejected; Appeal sent in
San Diego - Waiting (STILL?)

My transfer stats are:

3.2 GPA (In progress making up 1 F this semester, which will get my GPA up quite a bit)
Chemistry Major
IGETC: Partially complete (Missing 1 or 2 courses)

So.. I've pretty much been rejected by all the UCs this year. I guess the most noticeable weaknesses in my application were my low GPA and only partial completion of IGETC. I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on what I should be doing over the next year. I am definitely planning to finish up my IGETC this next year, but besides that I really need some help figuring out what direction to take at this point :(

As you said, boost that GPA, finish IGETC, but also get involved in a club on campus/volunteer or take up a part-time job if you haven’t already. Having transferred to UCLA last Fall I was also accepted to UCI and UCSB and from other transfers I’ve talked to those seemed to be the common denominators.

Aw… I couldnt pass ur thread since my stats are similar to urs and I also was in the same situation.
My major is chemistry and my gpa is 3.28.
I finished IGECT and all the prerequisite s except the 3rd engineering physics.
I applied to 5 UCs and got into UCD, UCI, UCSB, and UCLA but still pending on UCSD.

I got into UCSB and UCI with 3.19 last year but didn’t go because I was totally screwed in the spring semester. So I retook the classes on last Fall and reapplied.
My gpa is still low but I think the reason why I got into those schools is my ECs.
I did ~1800 hrs of volunteer work (in 7 yrs) in my church, and two hospitals.
I also got a part time job since I was a sophomore in high school. And I believe, my essays were strong enough to attract the admission officers.

Take some easy classes to raise ur gpa, finish your prerequisites and IGETC (they ARE important!), and volunteer and work too!!!

IGETC shouldn’t be a problem, especially if you’re only missing 1 or 2 classes. If you’re behind on pre-req, then that may be it. If not, then the F is looking really bad on your application, even if you’re trying to make it up this semester.

It was a Humanities class that I took for IGETC. It was my fault that I got the F… (Missed the final and got an automatic F…) I’m current taking it this semester and currently maintaining a solid A in the class. I mentioned this in my application… :(

Last year I applied as a Bio Major, rejected from 6 UCs, got an F Fall quarter that I made up Winter quarter. I appealed to Davis, but I didn’t get in. Also, it was probably because I had only been at cc for one year (I would have 90 units by the year’s end), and hadn’t finished ochem/physics. Applied this year and got into 2, waitlisted to 1. Don’t give up hope!
