did you guys have the 6th tab? I’m really wondering if having the 6th tab = “most likely” being accepted

“And probably the lack of a supplement essay hurt me cuz I wasn’t able to really show my interest…”

Think so?

Two years ago BC had over 30,000 applications and admitted 8,000. I suspect the numbers are similar this year. It strikes me that with 30,000 apps an admissions committee doesn’t just look reasons to admit candidates, but also for things that eliminate individuals. An applicant who had takes the time and effort to complete the supplemental essay displays a level of interest that someone who skips over it does not.

In the end I’m puzzled by your reaction. Your comments don’t seem to be about any genuine interest in going to BC but more about your bruised ego. You’ve been accepted to an Ivy League school, if I were you I’d be over on the Cornell board thumping my chest and asking questions about the school and living in Ithaca.

anotherasian - Yeah, no, my extra curriculars take up a LOT of my time…I’m just super busy, is all. Which is the reason I say I don’t do sports, haha (really, it’s my lack of athletic ability). Thanks, and good luck with the rest of your schools, too.

vinceh - Ouch. First of all, did you ever think that I don’t want to go to Cornell and that’s why I’m inquiring about BC? I mean, I don’t know about you, but Ivy League doesn’t mean everything to me…I’d much rather go to a smaller school, in a more intimate setting than a huge school like Cornell. So, it’s actually the opposite - whereas I applied to Cornell more because of its name (although it is an excellent institution), I applied to BC because I was genuinely interested in it. As for the supplement essay, there wasn’t one. So, it’s not like I had a choice to write one and just chose not to…I didn’t have the choice to write one, which is why I said “the lack of a supplement essay hurt me” rather than “I didn’t write a supplement essay, so that hurt me”.

And of course my ego is bruised, like I said, rejection hurts, whether if it’s from a school that I was expecting to get into or not. Maybe you haven’t been rejected so far, but if you have been, don’t tell me your ego doesn’t go through some bruising. Anyway, thanks for your reply.

I’m not sure demonstrated interest had much of anything to do with admissions, I (suprisingly) got in and didn’t show interest at all on my application, no business-related EC’s either. I was sure that I’d be rejected so I’m actually really surprised by this. Who knows what they’re looking for?

Exactly. During my visit to BC last summer, I acted like a jackass in front of the Dean of Admissions, interrupting him two times. And they still admitted me!

In short, BC doesn’t care about level of interest.
