Hey guys, so I just got rejected from Foster for winter 2014. So now I have the dilemma of deciding whether I should apply again or choose another major. I really want to get into foster, but having completed all the prerequisites I don't really see how I can improve my chances for the next application period. Should I just give up on foster and choose another major or possibly transfer to another business school?

How did your stats compare to the averages?

You should post your qualifiers so folks can help provide some perspective. UW Bothell has a business school with similar programs to Foster. I am unsure if their Accounting program has the extra Accounting accreditation though. That only really matters if you are working on an Accounting degree. :)

my stats were cumulative/pre-app/wsa - 3.37/3.65/2.5 and admitted was 3.56/3.66/4.16.

Yeah a 2.5 WSA will not get your admitted. I would work to get that higher (4-5 range) and try again, if your heart is really into going to Foster.

Em… I would just choose a different major. Even if you get a good score on the WSA (around 5-5.5) the next time, I doubt you will get in with stats like this. I mean, the chances will be higher (with 2.5 WSA you had exactly ZERO chances), but probably not enough. You might get in because of your personal statement, but if you don’t have a really good one, then I wouldn’t bet much.

That not to discourage you though. You can always try to do better.

Thanks for the input guys, the main reason why my cumulative gpa is so low was because I took some premed classes and did terrible. Im going to apply one more time, but if things don’t work out ill just move on. My backup plan is to major in economics or go to another business school. I want to become an accountant, but you can’t take the cpa if you haven’t taken upper level accounting classes, which you need to be in business school to even enroll. Im a little reluctant to major in economics because I dont even know what job I can get with that degree.

You bet dude!

Push for Foster if you are wanting a degree in Accounting. As you probably are aware, they have the AACSB accreditation for their Accounting program, thus why it is more competitive and why you had a hard time getting in.

Do not fret if they refuse to allow you in. There are two other schools in this state with that distinction. WSU and Gonzaga - of which WSU offers online schooling in the event that you do not want to go to Pullman (crappy town anyhow).

Do not get an economics degree unless you plan on getting a PhD. An econ degree is useless without a Masters and a Masters is normally only offered en-route to a PhD. Some schools break that model, but those are either Ivy League or schools you would not want to attend.

Your dilemma would be the reason my daughter decided to go to school on the other side of the country instead of attending the UW. She was interested in business and computer science and didn’t get into either one as a freshman so she went to a private university that offers direct-admission into the majors she was interested in (she ended up staying just in the school of engineering and is double-majoring in systems engineering, which mixes business and engineering, and computer science). The private school also costs less out-of-pocket for us than the UW would have cost.

I just wanted to point out one anecdotal example about majoring in economics. My daughter took AP Macro in HS and her teacher told the students not to major in economics BUT I have a co-worker whose son majored in econ at a small liberal arts college. He is in his senior year and already has a job lined up with a think-tank type of firm when he graduates. So . . . there are jobs out there in economics for people who don’t have a Master’s or a PhD.

That being said, if you really enjoy accounting, transfer to a school where you can get a degree in accounting.

What is pre-app GPA vs. cumulative GPA?

Also, what counts toward those GPAs? Is it all the classes you have taken at UW or just the Foster pre-req classes (ie: Econ 200)?

I’m sort of confused on the whole admissions process to the business school.

See link.

^Thank you!

Is cumulative GPA just all the classes that you have taken then?

Also, do you know what “combined GPA” refers to in this link? I’m assuming it means cumulative maybe?

I understand your feeling. It sucks. But please cheer up!! Be faithful. My sister was rejected by UCLA when she applied as freshman and my family persuaded her to choose another university but she sticks to her goal attending to cc and she got in UCLA as a transfer student. So bro, follow your heart, try again!!Maybe you will get in. Here best wish for you. I will not suggest you go for economic because job outlook is not positive!

I’m in the same situation as you. I got rejected from foster b/c my wsa score was 2.5. I will be reapplying for summer/fall. Were you admitted to the school though?

Yeah im already an undregrad at uw
