Rejected from IIT (Any insights?)

Good day. Today I received a letter from IIT admissions informing me they were unable to offer me admission. I was pretty confident I would be accepted so this comes as a bit of a surprise. Can anyone shed light on the why or if this is normal for candidates such as myself? A short summary of my stats are as follows:

18 year old Black male from a Caribbean country
SAT : Two sittings: 1990,2000 with a 2060 superscore ( 680 CR 710 M 670 W)
GPA: 3.75 Unweighted
Class Rank : Top 10%
Major: Comp Sci
Workload/Courses: Graduated last year (from “13th grade” ) with a C.A.P.E Associates degree in mathematics comprised of two units applied mathematics, two units pure mathematics, two units physics and a unit in both Caribbean studies and Communication studies.
ECs: Drama Club, Fingerstyle Guitar, Bass Guitar and Interact Club.

I mean, I’m not the most exceptional applicant but being rejected from IIT has caused a bit of concern for me. The only explanation I can come up with is that my scores were too high and the school didn’t think I would attend, but that sounds a bit pompous and vain IMO.

TL;DR Can anyone tell me why my application from IIT might have been rejected? Just out of curiosity and for future reference.

They did not reject you because your scores are too high. That is just not the way things are done. I cannot tell you why you might have been rejected but you can and should send an email to the admissions office and ask them. You can always appeal if you feel strongly about it.

Thanks for the response. I sent the admissions office an email.
