Can someone please point out something wrong with my application? I just got rejected from JHU, which was supposed to be my match/safety school, so now I'm really worried about the Ivies...

I am an international student, but didn't apply for financial aid but still got rejected...
I am very very distraught right now...

JHU, or any top university for thy matter, shouldnt be anyone’s ‘safety,’ especially if you’re international. don’t worry, your stats are excellent. you’ll get in somewhere!

hmm, seems to be a difficult year for Internationals… especially those who needed aid. However, I am an international and did not need aid and managed to get into several top 20 US schools so I’m unsure about the difference there. Which country are you from? There could be a lot of competitive applicants from your country. Also, I’ve always said this… do not consider a Top 20 school a safety… esp. if you are an international… but I would have predicted an acceptance. anyways, I’m almost certain that you will get in somewhere unless all you applied to was HYP.

^ j camilo, he said he DIDN’T apply for aid.

Anyways, I was waitlisted at JHU and kind of surprised too. I mean, no one is a complete shoo-in, but still. I totally understand how you feel. But stay positive for tomorrow (if you’re waiting for any Ivies). I was waitlisted at two colleges with ~20% acceptance rates but accepted to two schools with a sub 15% acceptance rate. Total crapshoot at this level. Good luck! I know you’ll end up somewhere you love!

your ECs, although I’m sure they were tough to do, do not make you stand out. At this level, you need more than to be a president of a club…if it’s sciences, you need to be published ( abstract, poster, or paper in a peer rev’d journal ) or win a national award like intel semis, your sports were good, but I’m not sure US schools even care about badminton, the kumon gig is worthless, …my question is …is your school comparable to the US top HS , like Bronx HS Science, Scarsdale hs, etc…but with your val. standing and 800s you shouldn’t have to worry…if you liked JHU that much, Sir William Osler was faculty at McGill. Good luck with the process !

Oh, and yes, your first post was very obnoxious. JHU can see through that sort of stuff. Surprise, surprise, surprise…

You’re stats make you stand out. Your EC’s aren’t particularly noteworthy, but they are substantial. Bluejay is just up on his high horse, don’t pay attention to him. You’ll do fine, most likely. But you should’ve picked an easier safety.

thx Drought =) actually my real safety is McGill ( which i have been accepted to (i’m canadian)^^), so i suppose i misused the word “safety” in this situation. basically i applied to several american schools, and out of them, jhu was the least selective, which is why i referred to it as the “safety.” sorry for the confusion it may have caused.

oh well u guys can let me wallow in my own misery now. thx for all ur posts, they were much appreciated =) even Bluejay with that very honest reality check =)
