I am instate and applied to main campus with a GPA of around 88.5ish and SAT scores of 2210. I applied by December 1. UD was my backup school, and I was counting on getting in because I was probably going to have to go there.

I didn't select anywhere to even be considered for the Associate in Arts program but that's where I got in, at the Dover campus and my major is listed as undeclared.

I'm so confused as to how I get rejected because I know plenty of people with GPAs and SATs much lower than mine who got into the main campus. My mid-year senior grades did slip actually.

I only mentioned my interest in dancing in my essay and I said nothing about theatre/drama. Do you think there was some kind of mistake?

If it wasn't a mistake, is there a chance that UD will reconsider their admission?

You got rejected with a 2210 and 88.5(Which I assume is a B+ or 3.3-3.4) from INSTATE?

Yikes. Sorry to hear that; that’s gotta burn.

I was somewhat surprised when I heard today that I got rejected(OOS) with 1900 and 3.42 and numerous EC’s, but that’s insane. UD must have had an unusually competitive applicant pool this year.

Like you, I know people with much lower stats than mine who got in(and they and I are OOS, Maryland here).
There MAY have been a mistake, but I wouldn’t count on it. Just move on. You’ll do fine wherever you go. I got into UMD, so I wasn’t heartbroken. Just wanted you to know you weren’t the only one. :)

Where do find what campus you got accepted to on the portal/letter?

@MarioKartExpert I mean technically I didn’t get “rejected” since the associate in arts program is like 2 years at the branch campus and then 2 years at the main one and then I can graduate with a regular degree I think. But… it’s basically like getting rejected -__-

But ughhhh it makes me so mad because I’d just gotten my head around having to go to UD since my other schools are either really hard to get into and I probably won’t get in or they’re too expensive. And I was actually getting kinda psyched to go to UD and then this. llwaihuffdakfjdsaksjda

@ZuzuTweet It said on the letter something like “Congratulations blahblah! Specifically, you were accepted to the Associate in Arts program at the Dover campus. You will begin your studies with an Undeclared major.”

Sorry about the error. I guess I felt the need to sympathize since I got flat-out rejected. I figured that you would interpret it as a rejection, as you have called it(“But… it’s basically like getting rejected -__-”).

What were your other credentials? Selective schools do consider more than grades and test scores. I thought mine were good, though…(see my post in the official decisions thread)

GPA unweighted: 88.5/100 (10 APs total including this year)

- volunteered in finance department of local hospital this summer (74 hours)

Hobbies:
- very passionate about dance (bollywood and kpop; minimal formal training but i perform for cultural charity events and cultural shows) there aren’t any places for learning indian and hip hop dance where i live, so i teach myself. wrote my commonapp essay on how dance uncovered my passion for culture and how international business would allow me to pursue everything i want in life blahblah

I didn’t list my AP scores on my app because some of them are bad and the other ones are average, so I didn’t want to send some and not others. Better just not to send them at all.

Oh yeah and my senior schedule was:
AP Biology
Chinese 2
AP Spanish
AP Physics
AP Literature
AP Statistics

^^^^^but my mid-year grades weren’t so hot this year. honestly, i thought i would have gotten my decision before they even went out as instate people get them earlier than OOS people do (late jan/early feb) and i applied before the honors deadline too.

I’m sorry you didn’t get in to the Newark campus to start with. I wonder if they thought that with your amazing SAT scores, you would have had a higher GPA and a higher class rank? The perception being that you did not work up to your ability. Obviously I don’t know you and know nothing about your HS (although I would think that UD admissions would since you are in state), but it’s just something I’ve heard of before.

The DD of a good friend of mine had a similar situation (although she went to a private HS). Her college admits and rejections were a bit uneven. I’m just offering this as a way to possible explain this.

I’m sure this is hard for you, but you obviously have the capability to do well in college and will, no doubt, be enjoying a successful college career in Dover for two years and then on the main campus. Good luck!

Oh, I will not be going to UD if I have to do 2 years at the branch campus. I was actually planning on working really hard at UD and transferring to one of my top schools as soon as possible.

Luckily, I’ve already been accepted to USP and Penn state, so it’s not as though I have no options but… I’d really rather go to UD as it’s better for me than USP and less expensive than PSU.

I’m really really hoping that this was a fluke and my request for an appeal will be accepted or I’ll somehow magically get into one of my harder colleges which are now definitely out of the question.
