REJECTED from MIT & Chicago = No Chance at Ivies?

So far, I have been rejected (not even waitlisted) from MIT and Chicago. I knew MIT was sort of a reach, but I was stunned by Chicago. This worries me. In light of this, how do you think my chances are at the Ivies?

Doubtful unless a miracle happens.

I have heard that Chicago can be very unpredictable, which is probably even more so this year.

I think it depends on your stats, and your individual app, and what each of the individual ivies are looking for, same as it did for each of those schools. They don’t opperate as some block making joint decisions. I know its stressful, but try to relax, and keep your hopes up, and remember that there are a ton of amazing schools with amazingly happy students in this country, and one of them will love you, and you will go there and you will be happy.

Not necessarily. MIT is fond of kids with distinct, developed talents in math and science, and UChic is notoriously essay focused. The Ivies–Cornell, Dartmouth esp–are more stats driven, and as such, may be less quirky in their admissions.

Of course, just because of the sheer number of qualified apps Ivies get each year, admissions may be quirky for other reasons. You need to offer the school something they can’t get from anyone else.

Good luck!
