Scripps College was my #1 choice for the longest time and I just got an email saying I was rejected.

My SATs are 1970 superscored, ACT is 29, and GPA is 3.84W so I figured I had an okay-ish chance of getting in.

Now that I realized I didn't, is there a way to appeal the decision?
If I were to send in a letter, would it actually be a letter or an email?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Last year Scripps WLed just short of 500 applicants:

Since you were rejected, it’s highly unlikely that that an appeal is going to lead to an acceptance.

Hey TimetoBegin,
Please remember that an admission decision says absolutely nothing about your character/who you truly are. I’m not sure if sending a letter of appeal would work since you were rejected and not waitlisted, but you absolutely never know. It also won’t hurt to try; if you are going to write, an email may be just fine. Being in the midst of the college process myself and having been deferred EA, I know what this kinda pain feels like, but girl, you got this. I hope you will have a number of other amazing choices to choose from, as well. Scripps doesn’t know what they’re missing out on. Good luck with everything! Rooting for you!

Thanks for the link, entomom, and I do agree that it’s highly ambitious to think my decision would be reversed, but as Kiki says, it won’t hurt to try.

What I was unsure of was whether or not they would even accept letters of appeals since it is pretty late. I also had a problem with my application and emailed their office of admission to inform them, but did not get a reply so… I’m not sure if they even read it, or they were too swamped up with application stuff to respond.

Thank you both for your input and Kiki, I hope you get into the college of your choice as well :)

I’m sorry to hear this. I cannot imagine your feeling of heartbreak. Considering that Scripps is a small school, they are very interpersonal. If you talk to the admissions counselor in your area, they may be able to tell you why they rejected you, and POSSIBLY you can have a conversation with them of an appellate caliber, I suppose. Did you show much interest? Online LikeLive interview or visit? I’m not sure if they offer Likelive for scripps but I know they have it for some other Claremonts.

Hi cherry, I visited the campus and during the summer, requested information from the school. I also “Liked” some Scripps pages on Facebook because I wanted to hear about upcoming news.

During my visit, I had an interview there, but could not stay for a tour because it was a school day. I saw some posts and a lot of the people who got accepted/waitlisted had much higher scores than me so I’m sure that’s why I got rejected, but I truly do feel as if my passion and drive would lead me to be successful at this school.

I’ll probably end up talking to my school’s guidance counselor tomorrow about this, but I am very disheartened right now.

I completely understand why you’re disheartened. Just remember that this is in no way quantitative of your future success in life, regardless of if you end up at Scripps or not.

You should talk to your guidance counselor and the admissions counselor that handles apps in your area at Scripps.
