Rejected from newhouse. Waitlisted for a&s

are you kidding me??????????
this is my top school. applied for broadcast journalism

any explanations?

i have:

30ACT
1900SAT (660m 660w 580cr)
4.1w GPA
3.7u.w. GPA
top20% in class out of biggest hs in country (over 5000 total kids)

great recommendations
tons of extracurriculars

any thoughts?? im ****ed.

same here! well, i got waitlisted, but still, my stats were about the same. this is syracuse! WHAT!!! i had a 2030 SAT, and the same gpa. WHAT!!!

I posted in another thread, but it’s not over yet. I got waitlisted, too, but I’m relieved to not have another rejection. With the economy, it’s possible that they will use the waitlist this year. Does anyone know how many they usually waitlist and how many get off of the waitlist?

Same happened here. Terrible feeling. How are you guys going to work around their May 15th notification date if most colleges deadlines are May 1st??

Same thing.

I applied for Photography & Women’s Studies. My 3rd choice was Women’s Studies and they offered me a waitlist to A&S. Due to my “personal qualities”. Really? If you knew my “personal qualities”, you would have accepted me to your photography program. THX.

I’m sorry, you guys. However, you’re stats are not everything to some colleges. I had a 3.615 unweighted and a 26 on the ACT. However, I had amazing essays, great recommendations and amazing leadership and extracurriculars. I’m using myself as an example to show that some colleges do not always ignore everything but your stats.

yeah same. denied to the dual newhouse - a&s program for film and poli sci. Waitlisted for just poli sci. I’m actually kinda surprised… I felt pretty good about this one. I don’t plan on accepting my spot on the waitlist though, so you guys’ll have a slightly better chance lol. GOOD LUCK!

I was waitlisted for A&S too

top 10%, great essays(those who read them said so), many and various EC’s, SAT 2070, SAT II 800 & 740, great letters of recommendation…
Any explanation for THAT?!

Anyway, I don’t really care because Syracuse wasn’t among my top choices, but I was very surprised…

Im sorry to hear that you guys didn’t get into your top choices but it goes to show that SU looks for far beyond numbers. And plus it is a selective school especially for Journalism, Business and Architecture.

beautiful campus, i was there for a tour for accepted students for the first time today and it was my first time in syracuse overall. it was VERY warm and nice and sunny outside. the buildings are beautiful, the old ones for the most part were my favorites
glad to be accepted into the whitman school of management (first and ONLY choice) (i didnt put a second or third choice down bc i only have one interest) im also a transfer student as im a freshman at another school now. i feel like it would make a great home just have to make sure i find out how much financial aid im getting, thats the make or break of syracuse for me.

I didn’t take the waitlist spot. I don’t want to attend a school that doesn’t want me and isn’t willing to let me pursue my career goals.

Just out of curiosity, would someone mind posting a copy of the waitlist e-mail. I must say I’m interested in what it says because I’m not quite sure if Syracuse admissions was as competitive as it has been in previous years.

From what I’ve heard through inside information, the University has accepted less students this year because there are way too many students here and the housing crunch makes it even worse. So expect a decline in acceptance rate.

Very interesting thanks a lot House of London, they’ll definitely publish it in the daily orange soon so we’ll just have to wait until then.

Uh, they have a brand new dorm opening up next fall??? I have heard the opposite, they kids are leaving SU at high rates due to economy (friend is head of technology and has been disconnecting kids left and right). I heard applications were down and they accepted a higher percent (probably same yield). Knight is right, we’ll hear soon the stats…

just wondering if some of these waitlists were b/c SU believed that since you were interested in very specific majors, whether any of the strong students would even attend if accepted to A&S…maybe they thought you would attend other comm schools if not accepted to Newhouse…(or the other specialized programs)…actually of all the posters, it looks like bruins situation is the only one that doesn’t follow that theory; very surprised he/she was waitlisted to poli sci…given that first choice was dual film/polisci…
