Rejected from SB

I'm really frustrated. I have a 3.93 GPA from my community college and have taken all the same classes as a friend who got into SB, but has a much lower GPA. The only difference is that I took an AP course in high school. I took Stats my senior year, and passed with a 3. According to SB's site, this score is accredited for 4 units. SB's site claims that I have not met the general requirements for SB. Even my counselor at my community college said I would have the minimum 60 units with my AP score. I'm obviously going to petition this but, is anyone in the same boat?

possibly. i had to click the disclaimer box for ucla saying i was short units (59.5), but this didn’t count a bunch of units of AP credit…a majority of them 3’s. i’ll see if this jacks me in a couple days

I remember clicking that box, but I called a counselor to make sure it was fine, and she said that it should not be a problem.

Definitely ask SB what’s going on. I clicked on that thing too but I have 10+ ap credits to make the cut. My counselor told me it’s alright too.

Were you accepted?
I’m having trouble finding a number that actually connects me to a person to talk to, rather than just an automated machine telling me information I already know.

^ Press “0”

Unfortunatly, the math requirement is extremely important. However, you do have an excellent reason to appeal. When they see a person with a 3.93 who did have AP credit that should have counted for your math requirement, they should admit you.

correct me if im wrong, but isnt AP credit only applied once you’ve been admitted?

I already have other math classes that cover the requirement. I was told that it counts towards IGETC.

are you guys 1 year transfers or something? Cause how do you only have 60 units? I have ~130 units in 2 years by just taking 3 classes a quarter. sometimes 4.

Sometimes AP scores dont count if you take the same class in CC. did you? Cause I took AP bio and then took human biology and they canceled each other out.

But yeah, a 3.93 student should easily get into ucsb. make sure you do

This is what the appeal process is for. I’m crossing my fingers for you.

60 semester units?
Thank you, I’m just hoping everything works out.

And, I never took Stats at my CC, as I had passed the AP in high school, and was told it counted towards the 60 units.

Don’t even appeal…call. I was in the same situation. When I called, the situation got straightened out and I was accepted.

Did you just use the number provided on their site for the admission office?

Initially yeah. After hearing my specific situation they forwarded me to other more specific people. Don’t assume the call is going to work, but if you’ve got a good case then it’s worth a shot.

Was your problem with AP scores also?

No, my problem was actually with prerequisites. Nonetheless, if you call and discuss the AP situation (if you’ve got the credits…you’ve got the credits), you should be O.K. Or if they decide that you don’t have enough units still, let them know that you’re more than willing to take classes over summer to get those units. That’s the route I’d take.

ahhh i clicked that disclaimer too… *** im scared now lol. i have like 59.5 units and i just used ap stats that i took in high school with a 3 to cover the rest… i hope there is no issue. i called ucla and berkeley to make sure it was alright. they assured me it would count towards igetc… so i hope theres no issue. i think i get like 1.5 units for ap stats.

I finally was able to talk to all the people I needed. My 5 unit Stats class is worth 2.7 units. I’m now short 0.3 units. All my counselors are completely baffled by this, and have said this has never happened. Hopefully, through the appeal system I will get in. I could understand it being 3 units, but 2.7?

what did ucsb say about it? did they tell you to appeal and you should be fine

They want me to try to find a 1 unit online course and complete it by the end of Spring Semester and to appeal. I doubt I will be able to find a course at this point for just 1 credit that is UC transferable.
