Essays: They're very out-of-the box and should stand out. I'm pretty proud of them and the teachers I showed them to were all very impressed.

Quite honestly, I’m a little surprised you got rejected to LA. Kids from my school with worse stats/ECs got in (haha not making you feel any better). Perhaps it is your GPA, but I’m led to believe it may be your essays.

You definitely stand a chance though.

The GPA doesn’t look very promising, but the rest does. Anyway, it’s hard for anyone else to say really, since we don’t know for sure what they judge on. Your best bet (sorry to state the obvious) is to just wait the week…

Same boat my stats
So I sent my IEP, for some people it is called a 504 plan, to UCLA by mail. I was wondering if UCLA did not look at it because it does explain my GPA and it shows that I can overcome many adversities! So does this count as shedding new light on my application!! ?? SHOULD I APPEAL?

SO… yeah same question any hopes?

If they don’t admit you, then they should be sued for claiming they don’t “care about numbers.”

UCs are all about numbers, brah. All. About. Numbers.

3.8 weighted GPA would make Berkeley and UCLA into high reaches, though selectivity does depend on division and sometimes major applied for.

At private schools that “want to build a diverse class of unique individuals”, your primary extracurriculars being piano and violin may not exactly add to the diversity that they are looking for (piano and violin are the stereotypical “tiger child” extracurriculars that private school admissions committees likely see a lot of).

That isn’t entirely true. While Berkeley asks for high GPAs and test scores, they also take into account the general status of the applicant. Many applicants with perfect-to-almost-perfect SAT scores were turned down in the past screenings. If Berkeley would just based its admissions on numbers, Berkeley’s SAT scores would rival HYPSM. But as we all know, that isn’t true.

My D got into Cal but not UCLA…in 2008.

^what were her stats?

Something like 3.9 GPA, 4.1 UC GPA, 2000+SAT, decent ( for collegconfidential ; “good” where we live) EC’s and essay, reviewed for, but not ELC. Oh, and URM, for what it’s worth.
