So I applied to CS for both UCLA and UCB. I'm an out-of-state resident, with pretty decent stats:
4.75 Weighted GPA
2260 SAT (790 Math, 750 Reading, 720 Writing)

My extracurriculars were a bit different... no sports or anything, but I did manage a YouTube channel for two years that amassed 2 million upload views and 18,000 subscribers. I also was a part of my school's FTC robotics team these past two years.

I was rejected by UCLA on Friday... and now I'm scared for UCB. Did anyone else here get rejected from UCLA but get into EECS in Berkeley?

UCLA is annoyingly idiotic for not taking you, excellent GPA and scores. You SHOULD get into UCB merit wise, but with all the applicants, only time will tell. You definitely meet the academic criteria though and you deserve admission. If you don’t get in, just know that you’re smarter than a good 75% of the school’s admitted students anyways. Sorry to hear about UCLA but I’m sure you can apply your intelligence somewhere more worthwhile. Best of luck my friend!

@bmichel - Encouraging words, and thanks for the insight. Only time (two days) will tell! I can only hope now :D

@electronix - I know the feeling. I’m at the stage where there is some doubt when a rejection comes… but it’s out of my hands and I try not to stress (even though I can’t help but to haha).

I think there must be some amount of luck when it comes to college admissions, cause I got waitlisted from UCLA and my stats are lower than yours (1950 SAT, 4.5 GPA but I applied for bio so maybe not as competitive). Anyways, good luck on Berkeley, I’m waiting for my decision too. Just two more days!

Wow those stats!! I know someone who got into LA (last year though) with high stats but lower than yours and NO ECs. LA admissions were crazy competitive this year But I would’ve thought you’d stand out with those stats and the YouTube channel - now that’s something unique!! Definitely not your every day EC. Berkeley is supposedly the most holistic UC so Maybe that YouTube channel will play a factor more than it did for LA, i don’t know but I would personally think you have high chances as you definitely stand out. I didn’t get into LA either and was rejected from two privates, the only way I’m getting into Cal is if my application reader was half asleep and put my app in the wrong pile but it sounds to me like you have a shot at Cal. Good luck, don’t despair

Well I’m not a CS major, but if it makes you feel any better, I got rejected from UCLA myself, but was given admission to Cal (and am currently attending, woot!). This was just last year, by the way.

I also applied to Berkeley EECS. I got in to UCLA for Computer Science and Engineering last week. I don’t know why you didn’t get in to UCLA (your stats are very similar to mine). I’m sure that Cal will accept you. UCLA just messed up.

To give you some real life stats, last year, my son got into UCLA (OOS), but did not get into Berkeley. Not even waitlisted. Also, I think I recall that some kids were offered January admission to Berkeley. I don’t know if that was a choice you could apply for, or if they offer it to you.

2300 SAT
3.7 unweighted gpa
14 AP classes
mediocre ECs.

So I fear that you will not get into Berkeley. I hope I am wrong though. Unlike University of Michigan or University of Virginia, for example, the UCs do not have a lot of spots for OOS applicants.

So it was. Didn’t get into Berkeley nor UCLA. However, I got into UPenn and Columbia which I’m happy about (even though engineering isn’t as strong as Cal’s, both are still great schools). Thanks for the support though, everyone :)
