Rejected from UCLA, should I keep my hopes up for Berkeley?

Meh, I’m feeling incredibly down. The fact that UCLA rejected me gives me little hope that I have a chance at Berkeley. Anyone in the same boat as me? Can some of you rate my chances? You can never friggin’ know. 1440 SAT, 3.9 GPA, 690, 650, 640 SAT2’s, two years volunteering at UCLA Med Center. What more could I have bloody done. Sigh Oh well, here’s hoping for Berkeley…

my friend last year got rejected from UCLA but got into berkeley and thats where he is now so keep your hopes up

There seems to be this correlation between UCLA rejects being Berkeley admits and vice versa, which worries me because UCLA is too close to home for me. Then again, that claim could be as founded that you need a 1500 to get into a top 10 school.

my son and two of his friends from the same high school all applied last year to Berkeley, ucla, and ucsd. One was accepted only to ucsd, one was accepted only to ucla, and my son was accepted only to Berkeley. fyi, his gpa was 3.9 and SAT less than 1400.

good luck. waiting to hear is the hardest part.

megathunder, I was asking myself the same question yesterday.
Personally I'm assuming that I didn't get in. That way if I do it'll be a nice surprise.
(I know it won't work, leave me alone :))
yeah you should have gotten in. good luck <3

Don't give up hope for Berkeley... see the other message board where I said that I think 10% of applicants accepted to either of the schools get into both. My roommate didn't get into UCLA two years ago and figured she wouldn't get into Berkeley (these were the only two schools she applied for). She was making preparations to go to a jc when she found out she got into Cal! Best day of her life!

Awesome guys, thanks for the comments. It actually isn't too good of an idea to get my hopes up at this point, but you can't change anything so what the heck.

Here's to hoping!

I also knew someone that didn't get into UCLA, but that did get into Berkeley. She was a legacy for UCLA too. She's extremely happy at Berkeley though.

this is not good news for me... got accepted into UCLA but berkeley.... im gonna go cry now....

a friend in my graduating class got into berkeley meche but not ucla

also, did you volunteer at ucla/harbor medical center?

UCLA and Berkeley look for different things; you may be rejected from UCLA, but accepted to Berkeley or vice versa. Your hopes aren't dashed yet. Good luck (two more weeks!).

Last year only atheletes and kids with high SAT scores got into both Berkeley and UCLA. The rest of the qualified students were split up almost randomly between the two schools. Don't worry too much you can still make it into Cal. You'd be surprised at how many people are less qualified than you (based on your GPA, etc). Make the best of whatever school you go to.

BTW... legacy doesn't count towards the UCs.

Well, your SAT IIs weren't so hot. Considering your SAT I score, they probably thought you slacked on the II's. You GPA was okay, I guess. Nothing out of the ordinary. Still, I think your stats were good enough to get in. You'll probably make it into Berkeley.

of course you should : ) - good luck.

So i should keep my hopes up for berkeley, even though i got rejected from LA? Because berkeley is like my DREAM school

Did you guys get mail decisions already?

nope havent got my mail from UCLA yet

same here. no one i know has and like 15 people in my class got accepted.

My friend's girlfriend was rejected by UCLA last year and now goes to CAL. This year alone my school (mediocre public school) had probably close to 20, if not more admits to UCLA. CAL acceptances will be interesting.
