yeah, the UC is a totally different system than USC, well for any private school at that matter

UCs are getting harder to get in now because most people can not afford private schools and only apply to public schools, so yeah don't worry aobut ucla

nave462000 did u send ur teach recs to ucla..i thought ucla said specifically not to send them teacher recs or any other supplemental documents?..i could be mistaken but i thought i read that when i was applying..

GBV: They throw out supplement documents and recommendations but they do ask for supplements from some people (augmented review for borderline applicants).

no i never mailed any recommendations to UCLA...well other than a letter on my behalf from a family friend who is on the board of directors of UCLA and is a major donor...

but that didn't work anyway - i guess she "requested" too many people this year

Hi I am a high school sophomore with just a 3.4 GPA, and slightly above average SAT scores. I am very active in extra curriculars, passionate about my causes, and I want so badly to get into USC. Is there any hope for me to get in? Does anyone have any recommendations now that could help me in two years when I apply?

^It depends on your high school. USC accepts a lot of students from D's high school. Her friend was accepted with 3.4 uw GPA and 2100+ SAT. You still have a chance to improve your GPA so you do have a shot.

Students who were admitted to UCLA this year do not have higher GPA/SAT than those admitted to USC. D has a friend who is not a URM got accepted to UCLA with much lower SAT/GPA than her. In fact she often refers to him as forever slacking off. However, he has a deep passion for religion and that might be the reason he got in. I think UCLA prefers one to stick to one activity throughout high school, at least this is what they told us at a campus tour.

funny. today. i got two letters in the mail. one was the admin package from USC. the other was the rejection letter frm UCLA

i tossed the rejection letter aside and laughed at it while gloating with my red folder beaming brightly in my hands. :D that's a pretty damn good feeling. LOL
