Rejected from UCR!!>:(

CCC transfer for Fall 2013
Applying to: UCSB(tag), UCSC, UCI, UCD, and UCR
Major: Biological sciences
GPA: 3.35
ECs: None after high school.
School attended: Rio Hondo College, Pasadena City College

I found out earlier today that I was rejected from both UCR and UCSB(tag). After an hour of researching through and thinking why I was rejected I found that apparently the major reason why is probably because both UCR and UCSB changed a major prereq course in Biology series, one of the major prereq series for my major.

I finished this series on my freshman year in Rio Hondo College from taking Bio200 and Bio201 as listed on assist.org back in fall and spring of 2011. However, the original Bio201 has been replaced by Bio203 when I checked assist.org earlier for Bio majors in UCSB and UCR (The series for other UC's that I applied to remains the same).

My questions are:

If I get rejected from the rest of the UC's I applied to, which is likely, how could I take the Bio203 if it's not even regularly offered in Rio Hondo. Do you guys think UC's would accept the Bio200 from Rio Hondo College and the remaining classes of the series from Pasadena City College even though it's a 2-course series(5 unit each) for Rio Hondo and a 3-course series(4 unit each) for Pasadena? Or do I have to retake the whole series again.

Or should I just stick with the old series and hope that the other UC's won't change it next year like UCR and UCSB did with no warning?

Also, If I stay a third year in CC, is it acceptable to leave school for the spring semester next year when I'm done with all required classes and get a job instead?

Please give me some advice I'm really butt hurt atm =/. Thanks.

Im so sad@@@

Meet with them and ask, or use assist.org

Your GPA would have definitely got you into UCR, the cutoff (for bio) seems to be close to 3.0 according to them.

Your best advice… call them first and figure out exactly why you were rejected. Call UCSB and UCR admissions to get in touch with an admission officer and ask why you were rejected. Then from there ask them directly what the best course of action is.

Don’t make any important decisions, like reenrolling in classes, without contacting admissions first. If you had got in contact with them before you applied instead of assuming your classes would be fine once you switched schools you probably could have saved yourself all this hassle. So don’t make the same mistake twice.

As far as working your spring semester that’s usually fine. Most of the UC’s only require that you’ve finished your last two terms at a CC and don’t enroll anywhere else. If you have all of your pre-reqs and requirements completed after Fall, you should be fine not taking any courses during spring as long as you explain why on the UC app.

Thanks for the advice guys. I’ll call admissions and find out why I’m rejected. I’m so sick of cc already:(
