I'm an instate applicant. My SAT score is 2110, and I have really really good ECs and awards. I'm in top 17% of my school since it's very small.
What I don't understand is, I got denied admission from UT. Instead they offer my the CAP program.
I really don't understand why?

I feel your pain. Top 18%, 30 ACT, decent ECs and everything. I got CAP’d too. I guess it’s the rank that killed me …

Cheer up Don’t forget you can always apply as a transfer.

Thing is, I always took it for granted that I’d get into UT.
Hmm… I really don’t understand how this work.

It’s all about class rank.

You can only take it for granted if you are in the top 9% (depending on the year). The Texas legislature controls UT despite cutting its support every year. I believe the state only contributed 16% this year but dictates 100% of admission policy. Blame your state legislator.

Sorry you didn’t get in, but don’t think it was just your class rank that kept you out. I got in to CNS first choice actuarial science major with a 21% weighted rank and 26% unweighted rank and I’m from out-of-state, so maybe UT is using a holistic review like they have been telling us of recent.

Applied to the College of Natural Sciences, and was CAPPED.

@jd you trolling?

"I was deferred as well…

2.1 UW gpa, 2.9 W, 2040 SAT, 36 ACT, 10 AP classes. No financial aid. "

i’ve trolled plenty of times before, but this time the ■■■■■’s heart is broken. my post above is 100% true.

ut admissions really raped alot of people this year

^100% agreed.
I don’t know if I even want to do CAP.

Rejected as well
Top 10%
31 ACT
3.7 unweighted 4.4 weighted
9 AP courses, competitive hs
Good EC and community service
Out of state though

I was capped as well, I have gotten into several schools (one with at very good scholarship) I do not know why I would want to go to some community college on the hopes of transferring to UT. That is a joke. I guess I just need a few days to get over this rejection…:’(

it really is about class rank. My SAT is in the mid 2200s and I got rejected/CAP

Was it for Nat Sci?
Nat Sci was my first choices, and I didn’t get in. They probably have a heavy number of applicants for NS this year.

^yea, as the username suggests, I did apply to CNS.

@Igielsks: I don’t think UT looks at rank for OOS in the same light with IS

Just wanted to share in your pain. I also got denied with:
32 act
2070 sat
1450 m/cr
Roughly 10% in class of 1250 students
4.0/5.0 GPA
Captain of lacrosse team, manager of local burger place, started a fairly successful landscaping company.
Literally hundreds of volunteer hours.
Fluent in both Spanish and English.
A handful of other good ECs.

Here’s the kicker: I am a semi-finalist (1 of 303 remaining applicants) for the Terry Scholarship at UT.

I was applying to McCombs, so I was always worried that I wouldn’t get accepted into my major but I thought without a doubt I would get accepted into the school. What frustrates me further is that a friend of mine got accepted into McCombs with less than stellar stats.
30 act
1900 sat
Roughly 17% in my same graduating class.
I’m sure he had good essays and ECs but nothing really special that would make him stand out for business that I know of.

So did you get the scholarship?

I will know the first week of March if I am a finalist for it, in which case I will move on to an interview. It just doesn’t make sense to me… The school sends the Terry Scholarship Foundation the list of students that should move on to the semi-finalist round, from what I’ve gathered. Yet I’m not even accepted into any major within the school? I don’t understand.
