Dear Outofhere:

I am writing, with genuine regret, to inform you that the Admissions Committee is unable to offer you transfer admission to Washington University for the Fall 2008 semester.

Selecting students from a strong and talented applicant pool has been very difficult this year. We would like for you to know that the members of the Admissions Committee have given particularly careful and complete attention to each aspect of your application.

We realize the application process can be a stressful one, but admission decisions should not be taken as judgments on your personality, character, or any other qualities that make you who you are. They simply reflect the competitiveness of the process.

We appreciate your interest in Washington University, and we wish you all the best in your future educational endeavors.

Very sincerely,

Julie M. Shimabukuro
Director of International Recruitment

I'm heartbroken... :( but I still haven't heard from Rice, and hopefully I will get in.

Me too. I wonder what it was. I thought I was a reasonably strong candidate

outofhere, are you an international transfer?

Yeah, but I went to middle/high school, college here.
I also thought I was a strong candidate. My college GPA was 3.84 when I applied, I had great recs, great essays, etc.

Do y'all think it's okay for me to contact them and ask them why I was rejected? I'd like to know..

When was your application complete if you don't mind me asking?

It probably had a lot do with you being an international student; you may have been admitted otherwise.

You can try I guess. You probably won't get much.

Wow the answers are coming early. My schools are scheduled for mid-may. Is WashingtonU earlier than you anticipated or is this their usual transfer result time?

^ I believe they make rolling decisions.

outofhere, your international status is likely why you were rejected. Were your test scores and strength of schedule good?

I got an email saying that my app is complete on the 25th (of March)..

I submitted my financial documents (for int'l students-even though it's not required until you are accepted) but it wasn't showing up online for a long time after I submitted them. I called my application processor earlier today and asked her why, but she said that because it was too old (didn't make sense- my bank statements are 1 month old when I submitted them, and Rice accepted them..). Maybe she knew I was going to get rejected in a few minutes?

My test scores weren't superior I guess. 720 Math and 600 Verbal? I don't remember. But I didn't think it would matter since I'm transferring as a junior. I'm taking 14 hrs this semester, but I'm also doing an independent research and 3 science classes (physics, organic chemistry, genetics), 2 labs. I also sent my TOEFL score just in case.

I emailed them just now, and basically told them that I'd like to know what I could do to make myself a stronger candidate next semester.

im so sorry to hear that outofhere.. I hope you get into Rice!!
this is really making me scared because i am also an international student applying to washu.. and I haven't heard back (even though my application was complete on march 14th)
hey can i ask whether they inform you of their decision online?

If you log in there will be a "Check your decision" link when your decision is ready.
