i'd just like some suggestions on my list please. i'm a female from a top-ranked prep school with a 3.6 uw GPA and a 2180 SAT and good extracurriculars (yearbook editor in chief, mock trial president, hundreds of service hours for habitat for humanity, etc). i'm just afraid of my gpa killing me... i'm in all advanced courses but i know i could've done better (this year i have all as and a b).
i'm looking for a school where i can meet a lot of different people and a school with genuine academic/social integrity. that's all.
i hear back from Michigan and Fordham this week but i'm not too optimistic about michigan.

can i please have suggestions? if you guys need help with anything i'd gladly get back to you.
my list right now is:
boston college
boston university
colgate
colorado college
davidson college
emory university
lafayette
pitzer college
william and mary
university of richmond
and vassar (reach...)

i'm kind of iffy about the super greek schools i'm applying to, but super small liberal schools such as colby, skidmore etc don't really interest me. please can you suggest some schools that'd accept me that are still good schools?

Are your in-state public universities still accepting applications? These schools are typically good places to look for safety candidates. Your safety school(s) are the most important schools in your application list; they must be sure bets for both admissions and cost, and must be school(s) that you would like to attend.

Your stats may have gotten you a full out-of-state tuition scholarship at Alabama (3.5 GPA, 1400 SAT CR+M). Unfortunately, the deadline was December 1. Your stats also likely qualify for a big scholarship (Blazer Elite) at UAB, but they are given on a first come first serve basis, and it is rather late in the admissions cycle now.

Another option is to go to community college, take transferable courses which fulfill prerequisites to your desired major at the state flagship university, and then transfer there as a junior after getting good grades in community college.

One of my kids also was rejected by Wesleyan, his first-choice school. His stats were similar to yours. He was WL’ed by Haverford and accepted by several slightly less selective LACs. He’s attending Colorado College, loves it, and is thriving there. I’ve been very impressed with this school (the friendly people, beautiful setting, block plan, and academic quality).

I’m not saying this is necessarily the right place for you, just trying to encourage you. Rejections are normal when you apply to reach schools. Many of the other schools you mention are about as selective as CC (Vassar and Davidson are a little more so). You could have a pretty good spread with schools from that list, as long as you be sure to add at least 1 admission & financial safety (maybe your state flagship?) That’s assuming you are comfortable with them. I’m a little puzzled by your statement that “super small liberal schools” don’t interest you, but then that’s just what most of your listed schools are. Colby isn’t much smaller (and no more liberal) than most of those.

Holy Cross has January 15th application deadline. HC is similar to Colgate(long-time athletic rivals) but has nicer location-only 1 hour from Boston. Holy Cross(don’t have to be religious) is a Jesuit school as is Boston College. HC has one of the best alumni networks-great for job placement and internships.

You have good stats and I really do believe that one of these schools will admit you (I’m guessing many more than one, but am being cautious with what I say). My S was denied at Vassar, but accepted at UVA. He was accepted at 7 overall and denied at 3. It’s hard to deal with, but that’s just how it works. The truth is, you just don’t know how this will all play out and it’s unlikely (based on your stats) that you won’t be accepted to one of these schools. I would only suggest that you add in one state school safety, and Denison U (good with merit aid for your stats, similar student body to Davidson, and deadline is Jan. 15 which buys you some time).

Try to not worry though! You have a good list, although very different types of schools. It’s an interesting list but packed with great schools. I really expect you to have some offers :).

Thank you for the suggestions guys, I appreciate the responses. I should’ve specified earlier I also applied to my state flagship and umd and I got into Fordham yesterday. Also I’m fortunate enough not to have to worry about financial aid or scholarship money.
And I know the LAC thing is a contradiction, I just already have so many and never really intended to but like the ones on my list. It’s hard to explain haha.
Thanks again for the suggestions and if anyone else has any I will welcome them!

Congrats on Fordham!!! Sounds like you don’t need to fill out more apps. (since the financial aspect isn’t a concern). Crossing my fingers for you with Michigan :)

Thank you very much! I got deferred but i’m trying to stay hopeful especially because i have really good grades this year that they haven’t seen yet.

^^ my friend’s DD had the similar stats as you do and got in…so don’t give up there is still hope. Perhaps your adcom row out the bed on the wrong side when she was looking at your apps? Its very subjective.

If you are accepted to Fordham, the cost is not an issue, and it is otherwise suitable (based on major/courses offered and other “fit” qualities – presumably you checked this beforehand), then Fordham is now your safety.

Pitzer sounds like a great option. My mom’s friend’s son applied rather late to Pitzer after thinking that he wanted a small East Coast LAC. It has the other 4 colleges to balance the size and environment, but, I understand, has a more Wesleyan feel to it. They are less selective than Pomona, Mudd and CM so GPA may not be an issue. They have a social awareness focus. If you thought Wesleyan was a great fit, Davidson, Emory, Colgate and BU don’t sound like they would be as good a fit - very different vibe. If not actually Greek - a “Greek” feel.
