I know I am not alone when I say I have recieved the unfortunate news of being REJECTED from UW, which is why I'm wondering if other people are planning on appealing. Is it worth it?
Personally, I've been accepted at a few other schools and I'm still waiting to hear back from more, but UW was my ideal choice- a lot of my friends can't image me being anywhere else, partly because I am a frequent vistor to the campus :) but also on an academic level UW seems to be the best fit for me, even my dad was expecting my acceptance.
Any thoughts?

if you really want to go to UW, i think you should try appealing.
i know someone from last year who got rejected, but asked for appeal and got in.
but, of course i think this is like a 50/50 chance…again, i know another person who appealed about the same time as the person who got accepted, but for him, he got rejected…
however, if you have good stats, i think you have a chance, cuz the guy who got rejected didn’t really have a good gpa, not much leadership, etc. just the fact that he was an ib diploma candidate wasn’t enough.

yea, thats what I’m worried about because my stats are only so-so

SAT Total: 1720 M: 630, CR: 560, WR: 530,

ACT Total: 27 M: 31, E:29, R:24, S:26

SAT Subject Tests: Math2-610 & Lit-580

GPA-UW/W: 3.16/my school doesnt calculate it for you but i think its about a 3.5

Rank: 190/341 (i think)

AP/IB classes: AP Japanese (grade-A, score-1) AP Psychology (grade-C, score-4) APUSH- I switched out because history is not my forte (grade-D, score-1) AP Calc AB (grade-B, test not taken yet) AP Physics C (grade-C, test not taken yet) AP Photography (grade-B, test not taken yet)

EC highlights:
drill (varsity) 11-12, girl scouts k-12, Hebrew High School 9-12, Earthbound club member 9-12, Jewist Student Union 9-12 & President for 12th [these were the ones I included in my app, even though I did do more]

I think you should appeal. It doesn’t hurt to try. Btw, how do you know the GPA UW?

I agree with LoveUW. You should appeal, especially since UW is your ideal school. Good luck I don’t know the format of the appeals, but you should definitely include anything you did senior year that would have boosted your application if you were to apply this fall for freshman year.

@LoveUW - UW GPA is the unweighted GPA (4.0 scale) - most schools only calculate this grade. If your school doesn’t, you can calculate it yourself (4 = A, 3 = B, 2 = C, 1 = D, 0 = F) Some schools round the grades (A+/A/A- = 4.0) and some schools break it up (A+/A = 4, A- = 3.8, or something like that). UW asked that you send in your unweighted grade when you applied.

Lol, phew :)

■■■■ im scared **** less now!!! omg!!! my stats are going to be almost IDENTICAL to birdlikefrog next year. my GPA is identical to hers right now, and will only be a 3.2 after this semester. but my SAT will be a little higher. **** im scared

I think I’m going to go ahead and appeal, I don’t have much to lose and if I get rejected (again) there is always WSU, WWU or U Hawaii.

@LoveUW- my school only doesnt UW gpa, so for me it was the W i had to figure out

@ilikeUW- I’ve heard of other people getting accepted with a 3.2 and similar stats, and some getting rejected, so I guess the small difference make a BIG deal, which can be a good thing, or a bad thing

^
thanks bro that gives me hope now haha.
yeah i definitely think you should appeal. nothing to lose!
and can you tell me about U hawaii? i dont know anything about it, but the location seems legit

. oh yeah. birdlikefrog. can you give a brief overview of the stats of the people who got rejected with around a 3.2? thanks

Just got my letter in the mail. I got rejected from Pre-Health Sciences and Engineering. I don’t plan on appealing, though.

GPA: 3.97W, ~3.65UW (I think)
Rank: 12%
SAT: 1370 (730M+640CR)/2060
ACT: Did not submit, but 31

012983 where are you from??

Texas.

10char

Just got rejected today… not planning on appealing because I don’t want to UW that much anymore. It used to be my first choice though. I’m not upset at all but I think if you’re really serious about attending you should go on ahead and try. It may work out in your favor.

Being from Texas is what tipped you over.

Mind explaining why?

You’re out of state.

Igi if my status is still received all materials, am I screwed?

No they haven’t reviewed you yet.

ilikeUW- i have a couple friends that have also gotten rejected from UW, they have similar stats (maybe a little worse but to embarassed to say so, which i think is understandable). I don’t know the specifics of their stats for sure, but here is what I know. (FYI my school puts insane amounts of pressure on students to take lots of AP classes and a good amount of students do to ivies or other top schools, and at least half the students apply to UW and many apply as a back up school.)
- has a gpa of about a 3.1-3.3 and she was on the drill team for 3 yrs, for 2 of the years she had a leadership position, i believe she is 1st gen. but i think her SAT scores are about 1500-1600, but she has taken at least 5 APs
- i think his gpa is about 3.2 (maybe higher) as well, and he has done a sport for every season (all 4 yrs), I’m not sure about his SAT score, he took minimal APs classes, and is a minortity
- last i heard his gpa was about a 3.0, has done no sports and few ECs, but excels in photogrpahy and is trying to get a company going (not much luck with that though), i don’t know about his scores but i think 1600-1700 is a safe guess
- gpa is a 2.8, SAT score was 1750, no ECs at all, not so great essay (i tried to attempt editing)
These are just a few of the people I know personally who got rejected

and what do you wanna know bout U Hawaii?

012983- I don’t think that the reason you got rejected was purely cuz of where your from, from what I see you have prettty good stats. But sometimes its harder to get accepted when you apply to certain majors, cuz they have limited space so they onloy want the best of the best, I have a couple friends that applied straight to engineering (and got in) both of them had amazing stats, one had a 4.0 gpa, was one of the people contending for valedictorian (apparently nerds dont do so well in votes on class speakers, jk he’s one of my good friends) but he also got really good SAT scores, i don’t member specifically but for subject tests he got a 740 on Math2 and i think a 680 on Physics, and he took at least 8 APs, my other friend in engineering had VERY similar stats, minus the valedictoriuan thing, he had like a 3.9

Pretty sure I’m rejected (reviewed app status and no transcript loading) but I don’t know if I want to appeal. I got into Cal Poly Pomona and tuition there would be significantly cheaper, and they have a great engineering program. But I love Seattle and the UW campus is absolutely beautiful. Ahhh
