OMG, so I FINALLY got through to admissions and found out that the ONLY reason I was denied from UCLA was that I was missing one stupid English class! Apparently none of the 3 upper division english classes I have already taken are good enough to fulfill their ONE freshman level comp. class. Really? I had all the prereq's complete, perfect grades and they screw me over for THIS! LAME! Sorry, I know I'm venting...but c'mon! This is ridiculous!

As Tigger would say: “Redonkulous!”

Lol, sorry. That sucks for you. I am sure you have other excellent options though!

do an appeal, say that you’re taking the class this summer and that you also have 3 upper division english courses.

@ OP: ^^ yes, that’s exactly what you should do.

That’s the kind of appeal that will have your initial decision overturned from what I’ve heard, depending on your stats of course. If they have verification of summer enrollment you’ll probably be admitted.

its an eligibility requirement so you can’t take it in the summer. your best shot is to look at your syllabuses for your english classes and try to find one that matches the syllabus of the UCLA class and try to petition credit for it.

I just called admissions and they said that my GPA was not competitive to their avg transfer GPA of 3.25. Do I have grounds for an appeal?

^ I’ve heard the same as JetForce.

unless you have new information that is not in your original application, no.

what would be considered as new information? Spring grades?

no, like you survived cancer and didn’t write about it. Its new compelling information that wasn’t available in your original application. You’ll essentially be reapplying with the same application you had unless you have something big that you left out.

^jetforce, I actually DID survive cancer AND wrote about it, but yeah…didn’t get me very far obviously…

but as far as appealing, I asked the lady and she said all I could do was take it next semester and apply NEXT year… She said there’s no real grounds for an appeal. My classes simply didn’t qualify.

In case you were wondering I took: Intro to Composition, British Lit, Creative writing, and Lit and Pop culture. They said the two lit classes (although reading and writing intensive in Hawaii) were not applicable at ALL. Essentially I was short English 1b or whatever it’s called.

@nicolles, did you apply anywhere else? (as in… not UCs?)

^ U-Dub, U of O, and Reed College. I already got in at Oregon, but well…it just isn’t as cool as California…

^ oh cool

for what it is worth, I hope you get accepted to Cal b/c you’re more than qualified compared to most applicants here…

good luck!

^aww thanks dude! I’m actually amazed at how many super qualified people get rejected. It’s like if they got rejected, well gees no wonder I did. Horrible, I know, but true.

Where did u apply? Have you gotten accepted yet?

there’s no way the average transfer GPA to UCLA this year was 3.25 itzcaroll

@nicolles,

Irvine and Berkeley

I really wished I applied to LA but my heart was set on Cal and everything on my app was tailored towards Cal.

do any of those people that tell you why you were rejected ever tell you its cus your essay sucked? or…? cus that might be a personal insult to some.

I don’t understand how you did not do the English prereq? Was there some confusion or something?
