My second choice (applied science) shows rejection, but my first choice (science) still says the whole ‘your application is ready for review’ thing.
On the UBC site, it says they only review you for the second if you don’t make your first, so I’m assuming I didn’t get into the faculty of science either, and I’m just rejected outright. Can anyone confirm?
I think I can shed light on this.
The faculties work independently of each other an not in conjunction with each other. Thus, the Faculty of AS must have checked yours before the Faculty of Science did.
Good luck, though! The Faculty of Science is less competitive than the Faculty of Applied Science. If your grades show improvement, you may want to post those.
@DartMonkey93 okay, this got weird, maybe you can shine some light?
After being rejected for a month, both statuses went back to the “ready for review” message, then my first choice went under review.
Now I have the ‘not at this time, we’ll tell you by May 15th’ message.
I have a 1530 (new), 3.95 grade average, good references (I think), and good ECs: Girl Scout, youth board president, camp counselor, graphic design work, school club VP.
UBC is my first choice, but I was rejected once, got my hopes up, only to get this “maybe later”, and I guess I’m confused. What are my chances at this point? Why wasn’t I admitted? A friend who applied because I did was admitted to the same faculty with a lower GPA, and almost no ECs (though, he has a 780 Math vs my 770).
This leads me to believe that it was about my essays, which has me nervous, because I thought they were fine. (I really don’t mean to sound like I don’t think my friend deserved to get in, because I do think he does that’s why I encouraged him to apply, but I do know he’ll ONLY go if I do, and I Really love UBC). And, on top of that I got an email today about the faculty, which just feels like a slap in the face. I got one about applied science just before being denied there.
Is it possible they just didn’t review my application at all yet? My update posted at 12:10 on the 16th.
Am o really going to be waiting until May 15th to hear either way? I could have already lost one deposit at that point! (waitliste
Did you call them? With that SAT and GPA you should expect an offer on the first pass. In general, Canadian schools are lot less holistic that most US schools… and predominantly grade focused.
Do you have all the prereq classes for the faculty where you are applying? For Engineering, UBC prefers 2 years of high school PHYS and CHEM but for Science things are a bit more lax.
@aquestion123 You may even be able to get an entrance scholarship scholarship with those exceptionally good grades/SAT scores. I am just emphasizing that you are a shoo-in.
They definitely would not reject you with those credentials unless there is an error.
