rejected spring transfers

Hey everyone, long time reader, first time poster.

I'm a Va Community College student who got a rejection from uva yesterday. I'm determined to get into uva even if it takes 5 more years of CC. I'm kinda bummed out about it. If anyone has advice or encouragement, I'd love to hear it. I plan on applying again for fall 07 transfer. So, anyone who either has been or is currently in a similar situation, post your sad story here to make me feel better...please.

You should keep your chin up and know that getting in as a spring transfer is much, much tougher than getting in as a fall transfer. What's your gpa?

cavalier hit it right on...spring transfer is almost harder than freshman admission, because there is a VERY limited number of spots (cav, correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure its less than 100) and so i wouldnt give up hope at all...DEFINENTLY reapply for Fall, they'll see the continued interest, and you'll have a MUCH better shot, especially being instate

I was under the impression that only special cases were taken for spring. I read this on their webiste: Students are ordinarily admitted only for the fall semester, although a limited number are admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences for the spring semester.

Yea, the number is small enough that's I'd venture to say that they only take URM's, development cases, athletes and people with extraordinary GPA's from top schools (Duke, Georgetown, whatever). I could be wrong though.

They're only 30 spots for spring transfer while they're 500 for fall.

I got rejected for spring transfer too.

thanks for your support. GPA is 3.6 with some moderately hard classes (calculus). I was just hoping my EC's would get me in. I got a letter saying I could apply again this fall with same application and that I didn't have to pay the $60 again, anyone else get this letter?

I think you'll be very, very competitive for fall admission. Good luck!

you should be fine for fall, and yes, you're automatically put into the fall '07 pool (i read this on their admissions site somewhere, and im 100% sure about this)
good luck too! i'm applying for Fall '07 to E-school as a soph, so if you have any issues you want to talk about just PM me =) hopefully a transfer thread will be started and active as we get closer to Feb 1

I don't expect you people to know this one. Do you have any sense of how the in state/out of state thing comes into play in transfer admission? I was looking for a ratio for the transfers, but couldn't find it.

Of course, I'm hoping being from another state isn't going to make the process harder for me.

yupp! directly from Dean Roberts too (i recommend emailing him with ANY questions, he's very helpful and is quick to respond) and he said that they like to keep 2/3 in-state, 1/3 OOS, even in transfers. http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/historical/admission/trans_by_residency.htm
looks like thats pretty accurate from the data too, which is GREAT for me (im in-state =P virginia all my life, and i actually like it...)

Anyone know when spring orientation/class registration begins for spring transfers?

i love your determination.

-a fellow wahoo.

some of us would do anything to transfer there

I'm on the eact same page as you shoebox. I don't know why, but your response had me thinking about the klondike bar commercials (What would you do.....)

hey, u stole my post, mannn

i know a girl who tried to transfer here 4 times until she finally got in.

"What would you do to get into UVA....."

this should be a thread hahah
