Essays:
I thought they were really unique (UCSD thought otherwise...). I talked about bandaids and how that related to medical field aspiration, helping out with be the match, etc and being a coxswain (finding my voice).

Im really depressed right now at this point. If i didnt get into ucsd I'm loosing hope for la, usb, usc, stanford, etc....

UCLA has been my dream since I visited in third grade and right now that dream seems to be slipping out of my reach... Can anyone advise to what they think will happen with these schools? ( i was accepted to cal poly slo, uop with regents, ucdavis, irvine, riverside) Also why I was rejected at ucsd?

You definitely have hope. The UC’s don’t contact each other with admission results, unlike the below made up satiric scenario:

UCSD: calls UCLA HEY WE REJECTED THESE PEOPLE. I’M FAXING THEM TO YOU. MAKE SURE YOU REJECT THEM TOO OR ELSE PEOPLE WILL THINK THE UC’s ARE INCONSISTENT AND RANDOM.
UCLA: Got it!
UCSD: COOL BEANS. I’M CALLING UC BERKELEY NOW. MAKE SURE YOU SEND YOUR REJECTIONS TO THEM TOO SO THEY CAN REJECT THEM.

Unlike the above, they don’t know the decisions of the other schools. It is all up to them whether they want you or not. Each admission officer has a different taste and preference for something else.

Your stats make you a super strong candidate to UCLA. You definitely have a big chance of getting in. I wish you the best.

PS: Your personal statements shouldn’t be written to be “unique” but rather “descriptive” and “vivid”. They want to KNOW the person, not test their creativity with writing. The essays should be like an interview.

you still have a shot! believe it or not, some schools reject students they know for sure will go to better colleges. (and luck does factor into admissions.)

I feel your pain, but its a long shot. You have some good stats, but if I were in your place I would settle for another school and not put too much hope into LA.

thanks you guys for giving me some hope. Im half hispanic and i don’t know if this was a factor or not, but I was offered a spot on the ucsd crew team back in the fall as their coxswain but i chose not to take it as I didn’t want to commit to something that I didn’t enjoy all that much. And a sport in college is a big commitment, etc… Maybe they rejected me because i said no to them? All these things keep running through my head- maybe it was sat score, maybe i should’ve taken more ap’s, maybe my essays sucked, should’ve done more extracurriculars. One will never know. Hopefully la or ucb will turn it around.

Never be hopeless like your name
I applied to 6 UC’s total and thought I would get in like 2
Now I got accepted to 4 and still waiting for other 2
my SAT scores were worse than you
