Rejected....um.

SO I just got rejected from a couple different programs/internships (some which strictly said no on the basis that i was "merely" a high school student) and now...

I need SOMETHING to do this summer....my goal was to go somewhere new, meet new people, and yes, I do care, at least a tinsy bit, that it does make a difference in my college apps seeing that I AM a junior afterall and this is my last summer to do stuff....

Any ideas?

FOr the record, I've previously held an internship with my congressman (got lucky tehre...no connections at all!) and have strong journalism experience (2nd year EIC of an internationally renown high school paper, a few summer prgorams, etc. etc)

So basically im looking for something politics/journalism related. I did apply to AAJA..not sure when ill hear back and I am going to girls state this year as well..

Thanks for your help!

Internationally renowned high school paper?

Get a job, write an editorial for a local newspaper, and volunteer for a political party of your choice.

Work at your local soup kitchen, volunteer at an assisted living center and teacher computer skills to the elderly. Mow lawns. All of these are respectable things to do over the summer break. Or learn a new sport like scuba diving–learning the dive tables take a little math know-how, but its not hard; and then get your advance certification.

hmm any other ideas or programs still open?

since you’re not going into engineering/science/tech/math, why don’t you do some volunteer work? it’ll humanize your application and make you seem warmer to adcoms.

I worked with a special ed school over the summer, and it was so inspiring, motivating, heartwarming…I really loved it there! I mentioned my experiences there in a few applications, too. And hey, it could give you a cool scope of society, as a politics/journalism student-to-be. :)
