Rejected without consideration...INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS dont let this happen to you

<p>Hey everyone,</p>

<p>Today I received a letter of rejection from a certain university that I was hoping on attending. I will not name the university, but the reason that this rejection was really crushing to me was because I had been rejected before my application had even made the Admissions Commitee. Let me explain.
Because of my status as an International Student, the university's International student Office took a look at my financial statement and saw that I could only contribute so much of an amount. According to the official, the amount was not enough to cover the amount of tuition and living expenses. However, I had visited the school last year, and their International student office did not mention having to show proof that we could fully cover the costs in order for my application to be considered. Also, they gave us the impression that the financial details would be ironed out after I my application had been passed to the Committee and the decision passed in. As a result of what appeared to be my family's inability to pay on paper the cost of the university, the International Student Office declined my application and practically rejected without looking at my application.
Today my parents sent an email and voice message regarding my letter, telling the office that we have the funds available in other assets that the University did not ask to show on our financial declaration. What ****ed me off about the letter is that I got rejected without having been looked at by the Admissions Committee, and also that the University even told me I had made the final round of deliberations for one of their leadership programs. Also, I had been accepted to another university that does not even give internationals financial aid, so this is why this outright rejection to what seems to be lack of funds boggles my mind.
So I would like to know if there is anything else that I should do, or if any of you Internationals have any other advice.
Thanks very much for taking time to read this.</p>

<p>wait how exactly do you know they didn't review your app?
and please do tell us the name of the university
sorry to hear about your rejection :(</p>

<p>the official said in his letter "I unfortunately cannot pass your application to the comittee."
The international student office simply does a preliminary scan of my app before passing them on.
As for the name of the school, I won't say it on here since i still may have an outside chance and don't want to burn bridges.
Here's a Hint: A small private school in the West in the NCAA tournament.
Thanks for the reply.</p>

<p>they can't do that. how can they not pass your app to the admissions coimmittee just because of your percieved inability to pay? pls PM me the name of the uni, i want to see where this is written in their records.</p>

<p>oh god . . this isnt a great thing that happened to you . . </p>

<p>have they responded to the email your parents sent them ?</p>

<p>no not yet...i just hope they respond, I'm just trying to grin and bear (sp?) it.</p>

<p>hey this isnt fair...i do hope they respond...</p>

<p>Keep the letter and sue them one day.</p>

<p>hahaha thanks guys</p>

<p>Yeah, that really sux!</p>

<p>i cannot find anything on their blasted site that says "no money no talk". althought there's an indication that applying for aid do affect your chances, it didn't say anywhere that "we won't even look if you ahve no money". </p>

<p>you may want to consider bringing this up with the office directly if you really feel of going there. </p>

<p>blasted   people  </p>

<p>thanks banedon17 for some of the detective work
unclear was it not?
anyways, it's a good thing i found the other thread about the 'international rejections'.
it seems like the reasons for the other international members rejections are the same thing...'no dough, no go'
i hope the best for anyone else going through this tense time, hang in there !</p>

<p>yeah now that i read it, it makes sense. since you cant get a visa anyway.</p>

<p>but still, it's unfair to say "you're handicapped, so we don't want you on our marathon team". i mean, aafter all, i could run on my hands faster than anyone who run on their legs, is it not?</p>

<p>good point there...
lol there go my dreams of being a part of march madness ! :P</p>

<p>how were u in the final rounds of deliberations for their leadership program if they hadnt opened ur application packet?</p>

<p>just the lawyer in me..
sorry i sympathze w/ u</p>

<p>and im no longer part of march madness either!! duke just got knocked out... F.UCK</p>

<p>when did duke decisions come in ?</p>

<p>hey i understand you quite well. a week ago i recieved a letter from Quinnipiac university (the safety university for me) and it said exaclty this : Even though you fullfil our academic requirments, we have to put you in a witlist becaouse our budged is not able to fullfil your need for findancial aid. I know it is not fair but what can you do?</p>

<p>Hey i was wondering instead, if i decided now to retake back my fin aid app how can i do. I have asked to Lehigh and Colgate a lot of money and i am sure they wont admitt me with the amount i requested. Is it anyway i can take back my financail aid application or at least change the amount i requested?</p>

<p>Oh! I was considering applying to QU, then I saw how low their financial aid was and decided not to. Can you believe they also make buying their laptop compulsory???</p>

<p>As for your question, I suppose it'll be best to email the admissions office and ask if it's possible to withdraw the financial app application. If you're going to change the amount, you might still have to prove you can support yourself (i.e. you have bigger funds) still, so they may ask you to fax/mail documents proving so.</p>

<p>well what is better, to get accepted to all your top schools and then not be able to go cus u dont have the money?? </p>

<p>i think this whole process blows but i dont see a solution to it (besides studying in another country...)</p>

<p>so far i have been waitlisted to 2 schools because they cant fund me :(</p>

<p>the leadership program requires a seperate application that is independent from the admissions process. if you get admitted to the program, it is conditional that you must have also been accepted to the university, but there are two committees for it. (complicated i know)
now that my app can't go any further, I guess my chances for the leadership program are non-existent :)
anyways, this school lost last night, so i there goes my march madness.</p>
