Hello CC. I was just informed that I was denied admission to Baylor even though I thought I had a strong chance of being admitted. I had a 26 on my ACT, 3.68 GPA, and top 25% of my class at a public high school. The admissions office was very friendly and said that they would love to have me, but I just do not cut their strict admission criteria and did not take enough rigorous classes. They suggested to go to a good college for a year or two and make sure I take only classes that can transfer, then to re-apply as a transfer student. I am really disappointed because Baylor is such an amazing school and has the nicest student body and a great reputation in Texas. The admissions told me they are hoping to bring their ACT averages to the 27-32 range within the next few years and have 66% of students in the top 10% of their class. they said they are receiving numerous donations from alumni and are only hiring the best faculty. i asked them what their us news ranking goal was, and they said they would eventually like to see baylor in the top 30 to 40, and predict they will rise each year with their new president ken starr. i am just really upset about not being admitted because i had my heart set on baylor. its such an amazing school and the campus is beautiful, and the people are so friendly!

My cousin just graduated from there and higly recommended it to me. Where should I go to fill these next 2 years before I transfer? They said in order to be competitive as a transfer student I need to have a GPA in the range of 3.5+ with quality classes that will transfer, does anyone know how difficult it is to be admitted as a transfer? Apparently Baylor is on the rise and a degree from there is going to be one of the most respected in Texas within the next decade or so. Will any of you share your insight or thoughts? What were your stats, and were you admitted? Are you attending? Do you think Baylor is changing for the better and will go up in the rankings like they are saying? Thanks!!

I have a question, when did you apply and when did you hear about your rejection? Because I applied on 18 but said my app fee was paid oct 28… so maybei don’t get in. THanks. I think there are some other good schools, like ut texas a&m that are cheap then maybe you c an do graduate shcool at baylor :)

Holy crap. My stats are soo much worst then yours, and I got in. All I did was right some Baptist BS in my essays, do teacher recs, counselor rec, resume, and I sent in a letter on why my grades were so terrible (more BS). Sorry dude, you can file a letter of appeal.

P.S. Some guy in my school: rank 184/492, ACT 24, SAT 1640, Didn’t do resume, no Recs, he didn’t even know about goBaylor… he got in. He got in before me… I was like ***???

I really don’t think it was your grades, but it was probably the effort you put in your application and the person who was going through it at the time or something. LETTER OF APPEAL DAT HO

And my stats are: 78/492 Rank, 580 CR, 620 Math, 26 ACT, and 3.2 GPA lol…

My son submitted his app in mid-October and we’re still waiting on a response. It’s a bit worrisome because friends who submitted later received acceptances. He attends an academic magnet school and is in the middle rank of his senior class, 33 ACT, 8 APs, 12 hours of dual college credit, played 2 major sports throughout HS, Eagle Scout, and other extracurriculars. Not Baptist, didn’t complete the Why Baylor portion of app, visited campus but not documented. It’s not a top-choice college but still we’d like to hear back one way or the other. This thread makes me wonder what tilts the decision to acceptance.

I was accepted into Pre-Business as a transfer for this Fall 2010, even though I’m already 80 hours in. lol. I decided not to go, but am starting to second guess my decision. I’m from about an hour away from Waco. I would only go to Baylor as a transfer, you can save so much money. Baylor has been spending so much money the past few years on getting new facilities, but their tuition seems to increase 2 to 4% every single semester. If their athletics continue to improve though, I think their national reputation will increase as well. If Baylor is your hope, go to McLennan Community College, definately. It’s in Waco, the facilities are all brand new and there was a new scholarship for kids transferring from MCC.

Hey, i’ve applied to Baylor for the 2012 freshman application (started my application way back in August cause i’m nuts about this school too! lol). I have a 1450 SAT and a 3.3 GPA. I don’t know if will get in or not, but hearing what happened with your application is frightening! The admission people do seem friendly, and maybe it is just a marketing technique…I don’t know.

One thing I will say is that I spend my whole summer just trying to perfect my application to its best, I dont have the best grades or test scores, but I have alot of extra curriculars and two good letters of recs (thats all you can send lol). I’ve honestly say I poured my heart into the application.

I talked to my admissions councelor for my state, and he said that if you get rejected the first time you can apply for the second round of admissions!!! My jaw dropped. Did you try this at all? All I really need to do is get my SATs up for second round in case I dont cut the mustard Aghh this school seems soooo nice yet sooo brutal with admissions. I’m trying to get into Pre-Med…quite the popular pathway @ Baylor I hear!

^ 1450 SAT can cover a multitude of academic sins. that’s top 4% nationally (I’m estimating b/c I cannot find the % table for scores just now), and also gives you a pretty healthy merit scholarship despite the low GPA. I think you’re in.

dunnin, for some reason i feel like irishboy means 1450 out of 2400, as he says “I dont have the best grades or test scores”. A 1450 out of 1600 is 98th percentile and only 30 points off 99th percentile. I scored 1400 out of 1600 (2110 overall) and that was a 97th percentile.

Well guys, I got rejected and I’m pretty sure it was my test scores. still though I’m applying for 2nd round admissions once I get my new scores in the 22nd. College board sure takes their sweet time scoring the sat… here’s hoping itl go smoother a 2nd time. Patriot : yes Baylor is on the rise, they’re shooting for their “2012” vision of becoming more…prestigious.

Irishboy7
You don’t have to reapply for the second round, just send in your new SAT scores and if the composite score is a 1100 or better, Baylor will contact you and tell you that things have changed…that’s what the admissions office told me. Currently I have to sign an agreement saying that I will take some summer classes in those subjects. However, I’m taking the SAT again and basically it is like testing out

Hey guys!
I got into Baylor with a 27 ACT and 3.96 GPA. Patriot441, I say don’t give up. Apply for the second round of admissions! If that doesn’t work, I vote the community college in Waco and then applying as a transfer. You’d save a ton of money and still be a part of the Baylor environment.

My daughter applied to Baylor in August, early action. The last of her application was just completed (letters of recommendation - slow teachers). She has submitted everything (resume, short answers, etc.) and Baylor is her #1 choice.

She has a GPA of 3.56, seven AP courses, and a 28 ACT (32 Reading, 29 English, Math 25, Science 24) and loads of service work (Honduras Mission Trips - 4, US Mission Trips -2, Local service work), Athletics (Cheer and Softball) and a lot of school stuff (Peer Leadership Counsel Chair, Writing Center Tutor, Spanish Center Tutor, Several Club Presidents, and a member of the school’s Citizenship Institute (two year course of study that you interview and write essay to attend that is sort of a prep school’s equivalent of Honors College - guest speakers, leadership trips, etc. - Jimmy Carter, United Nations, Robinhood Foundation, DC, etc).

My long winded question is: The site says she will hear “By January 15”. For those of you have been accepted to Baylor, did you hear earlier than 1/15 or did you hear in January? When did you get notified? The waiting is killing me! (She, btw, is fine…it’s her mama that’s stressing!!!)

I’m like you! I’m anxious to hear but my son is not worried or anxious at all. He will get his notification by December 1st. Goggle -Baylor twitter- you will find lots of official Baylor accounts and they are very informative. The Baylor Admissions twitter has lots of info. If you have time and browse through you can see last years tweets congratulating students on their admission. Gives you an idea of when things started last year. Your daughter has a great record. Good Luck!

Our S was just accepted today and we were surprised as we didn’t expect to hear a decision until later. I thought I would post his timeline below in case it helps you or others who are waiting. We do not have the official mail yet, but found out accidentally tonight as he went through his EA schools to check one more time for anything that had to be completed by 11/1. It was a nice surprise to see his acceptance on his Go Baylor page. Good luck to everyone!

newjersey17 sent me a message but I don’t post often enough to be able to reply privately but they said it would be OK to answer here. The questions were:

"Do you know if we will hear of any merit offers via the go baylor account or will that be in a formal letter via postage mail? Thanks!! "

I have not yet seen any merit scholarship offers posted on S’s go baylor account and believe I read that they send formal acceptance and initial scholarship offers via postal mail.

Congrats to your D for her acceptance to another college and hopefuly the Baylor acceptance will be on its way soon as well!

Thanks to 247rtc’s post, I checked my D’s application status and found she was accepted, too.
9/22 - submitted application
11/23- all required documents were received including SAT
We’re waiting for merit-scholarship offer and any other honors invitation.
(I have to visit the mailbox every day, though).

Does anybody know when the Baylor’s merit-scholarship offer will be sent ?
