Hi everyone, I'm a long time lurker (very long time haha), first time poster. So I was rejected from Chapel Hill and I know it's very difficult to get in OOS and it wasn't my first choice so I'm not too upset but this is making me very nervous for my other schools like Notre Dame, Cornell and others. I'm just wondering is this rejection any indication of how the others will turn out? I know no one can really answer this becuse these outcomes are such toss ups but I'm just looking for some input.

it shouldnt be too big a deal, I hope…

I was defered then rejected oos, but so far i have gotten into a UCLA, Gonzaga with 14k a year, and USD with 20K, so u should be alright

The schools you’ve listed are all very selective, including UNC-CH OOS. It’s hard to give you an opinion to your question without knowing more about you, your stats, and your resume.

Do as your name indicates…faith. D was accpeted to UNC, Vandy & waitlisted at Wash U - the one school she really wanted. All I can do now is have faith she’ll get off list & if I could I’d give you her spot I’m beginning to think it’s so much luck/chance/who reads your app…All the best to you with ND & other schools!

No matter what happens, you’ll end up going to a college you love. And if you absolutely hate where you go you will be able to transfer somewhere that you do and life will work out just fine. Rest easy.

I too got rejected from Chapel Hill and I’m an international student. I felt upset for a while, because I too felt that this means I won’t get accepted in too many other places. Then, I got my acceptance at Pepperdine U 5 minutes later! All colleges have different methods and ways of selecting applicants, and even though this may sound redundant, you will end up going to a college which is a BEST fit for you! So, don’t let one rejection pull you down. Good luck for the rest of them! :)

I got deferred by Chapell Hill, NC State and NYU. I’m feeling quite discouraged at the moment because I’ve also applied to Columbia, JHU (which im sure will be a no) and Duke. I’m in love with Columbia, I’m sure to be depressed for months if I don’t get in. Well, I’ll know this coming wednsday. God Help us all. This could drive the most pious and faithful nun mad.

In years past there have been numerous examples of OOS students being rejected by UNC but being accepted at schools like Cornell, Columbia and Duke. OOS admission to UNC can be a very tough ticket to punch for most.

If you were a competitive candidate for those schools to begin with, your chances are as good as anyone’s…only you and your college counselors know the answer to that though.

Good luck!
