so penn state was liek my ultra safety school, and finanatial safety school too and i got wait listed, my stats are:

3.99 GPA, 2250/2400 sats, national merit finalist, good extra curriculars, even though penn state doesn't care, and alot of writing awards and hardest corses, i took AP calc in 10th grade and have had 9 APs since 10th grade. WATS GOING ON?????? (ps i did apply after nov 30th, but still????)

***, that makes no sense. That means that I am getting rejected from Penn with my stats. Did you apply to the honor's school? I am having a hard time even understanding this.

honestly, it could be that your so over qualified, and they have already accepted the people they want with those kinds of grades. my friend got rejected from univerity of maryland with similar stats. since you applied later...they figure you dont actually want to go there expecially cause your grades are so good and they dont want to waste an acceptance

her stats arent good enough?! thats a joke right. I have much lower stats and got in, I checked summer and expressed my intrest in penn state. You should call and see whats going on. You are well above their range.

Some schools will reject on the premise that you will NOT enroll because you are way overqualified. They may see that you are taking spots from people that may actually enroll.

"no joking - it could have been your spelling."

Ha, hilarious.

lbabyxo, you applied a lot earlier and you may not have applied for the same major. With the rolling admissions, the time that you apply is a big deal. Some acceptances to certain majors are a lot harder than others. His stats are good, but let's not go overboard and say he was way overqualified. He didn't even get a 4.0(close, but with all those AP classes he should have been well over a 4.0) Lbabyxo, your stats couldn't have been that much lower or you would heading to a branch campus.

ps i'm a girl. aps arn't wegithed very high at my school only a 4.3. idk i just dont' get it, and my stats have to be good enough, i mean they accept poeple with leik 2.7s... i'm calling tonight to find out what happened (p.s. also, i might not spell well, but i'm not a moron, i'm not going to spell things wrong on my application.......)

I don't mean to be mean, but your spelling does reflect poorly on you. I totally understand that when one tries to type quickly, errors can result. However, you continually spell the same (common) words incorrectly. It would behoove you to begin trying to improve your spelling. Bad habits are hard to break. In a few months you will be entering college. You will undoubtedly have to take tests that require short answers or essays. If you demonstrate the same poor spelling on these tests as you do on this forum, you might find that your grades will suffer.

Ok. This is too much, and not very helpful. I'm simply asking about my Penn State rejection, not about my life flaws. Never mind
I'm just gonna call.

well JEC, they were much lower..in my opionon. AND im not heading to a branch campus.. so i dont know how to explain that. Alexsmol, just call .. don't listen to these people. You are qualified.

alexsmol, you are qualified. In MY opionon my stats were much lower and I am not heading to a branch campus ... JEC. Just call, don't listen to these people who really are prettty cut-throat.

Please do not be defensive about the spelling. I was trying to offer some constructive criticism, not be mean. I would tell my own child the same thing.

With your GPA and a 2250 SAT, you are obviously very bright and qualified. It is a big question why you got rejected from PSU. I would recommend calling and asking. I believe the University offices close at 4:30. It is now 4:05, so it would probably be a good time to call.

dude what the hell...haha. who cares about his/her spelling. do u write like that in ur essays? no rite (hopefully). i dunno why a state school would do that, rejecting people who are overqualified, that's just weird. definitely appeal or call or osmething.

no one's attacking your flaws. I can guarantee you, though, that if I read an essay with the grammar and spelling you exhibit here, I would reject you. You might not even know words are misspelled to know to fix them. High scores or not, it has everything to do with your fundamental question of rejection because schools assess more than just grades and numbers.

That said, it is probably a cirumstance where they figured you weren't going there because you'd get into another school and offered the spot to someone else.

Well, i just called and they said basically that it was all in the timing, that all the slots were already filled up (dang). Oh well, he also said, for any one else in the same situation, that if you're pretty qualified and were wait listed, spots open up really quickly.

As I recall, the PSU application doesn't even have a required essay. I think there might have been an optional one along the lines of "Is there anything you would like to tell us about yourself?" I know applicants have been accepted without answering it.

The Schreyer's application, on the other hand, had multiple essays.
