Dear xxxx,

The Committee on Admissions is grateful for the significant time and effort you have invested into the application process. We have completed our review of your credentials, and I am sorry to inform you that we cannot offer you admission to Notre Dame.

Notre Dame strives to be an institution that educates the whole person and because of our mission we attract a special type of applicant. Your impressive academic record and personal qualities testify to this fact. The most difficult part of our evaluation process is to know that most of our applicants are qualified and would be successful here. It is only within the context of an extremely talented group of candidates that our difficult decisions can be understood. We fully recognize that our loss often proves to be another university's gain. Given your excellent potential for college work and the contributions you have made to your community, we are confident you will accomplish great things wherever your talents may lead you.

Please know that you have honored us by your interest in Notre Dame. Your application received our most thorough review, and we appreciate your understanding of the decision we have made. Best wishes for success in all of your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Daniel J. Saracino
Assistant Provost for Enrollment

I am very sorry... I know how you feel. I was rejected from Dartmouth today and waitlisted at SU. I am sure you will be happy wherever you end up next year.

i want you to know there is someone out here who feels so badly for you. i just kept reading that letter you posted over and over again, and even tho i have never met you, my heart bleeds for you. it is the worst feeling to get rejected from any school, but especially from the one we want the most. i have been rejected from two schools in the past week, and i am waiting on ND. but i also want to tell you my sister went to SMU (we are from So Cal)and the whole time she was there she wished she was at UT Austin. that school is awesome and i just know something will happen there that will make you glad with the course your life took. again, i hope it helps that we are out here somewhere, supporting you.

rottenapple - i am so sorry for you. i really am. there is way too little room for all of us applying. it is just not right. UT Austin is a GREAT school. i know something great is going to happen for you there. again, i am sorry.

Wow I'm sorry for you... I may find myself in the same situation in the next few days..... Might I ask how you could possibly already have your letter though.. seeing that they claimed they were mass-mailing them tomorrow? Does anyone know what's up here?

In addition to what I said above though.... it hurts now but I know you will do awesome wherever you end up. Applying to Notre Dame in the first place is a sign of great academic potential with some serious drive. I really wish you the best of luck

Note: many people may be saying the same thing in response to my posts over the next few days... it'll be nice to know either way though.

hey I know how you feel, I just got rejected from northwestern and waitlisted a uchicago. it sucks, but you have to remind yourself that this has nothing to do with you self worth nor is this decision the end all be all of your life. You will find success, the path will be different and most likely more fulfilling anyway since this was not meant to be. I am not even excited for the decision to come because I know it will be a rejection, but I am not sweating it and neither should you. We all have other great options anyway. I will probably be going to an awesome LAC next year and I am totally fine with that and UT Austin is a fabulous school.

To all of you that got rejected, this must sound repetitive by now but seriously keep your chins up. Admissions fluctuate so often that they really aren't the best judge of your true "worth" or value. By the sound of it, you will all be successful no matter the environment. I got rejected by Duke so I know how that whole thing goes, how the letter tries to make you feel better about yourself. Just remember that you honestly can succeed anywhere, and you'll most likely have a great time doing it. By the way, a good friend of mine is at UT-Austin and absolutely loves it.
Good luck to all of you.

i got the boot from notre dame...completely heart breaking...everyone keeps telling me things happen for a reason...but the "reason" sucks! best of luck to all of you who will be taking my place!

pinke---
hi hun.
I'm devastated. I've accepted it, and now I'm trying to move on. My whole out of state life is blown to hell because Vandy waitlisted me. It's University of Florida for me. Oh well. :-) Best of luck, and if you need to talk to someone who's in ur same position feel free to send me a private message

Unfortunately I got my rejection letter a few days ago as well. Notre Dame was a top choice for me, and I thought I had a good chance of getting in. But I will be going to University of Michigan next year, so I'm not completely devestated because it is a great school.

My son got the boot yesterday from ND as well - his top choice. However, not being Catholic was a strike against him. Oh, well, he's happy he's in at Purdue. Looks like ND rejected a lot of CCer's.

My daughter was rejected as well. It was tough because it was her first and only rejection, and ND was her first choice. She's still got Northwestern (athlete), Vandy, Emory (athlete) and Saint Louis U (academic and athletic scholarship) to choose from. Any advice as to which of these?
