Rejected?!?!?!

nor cal is grosss

I feel you all!

3.8 unweighted
4.3 weighted
SAT: 1740
ACT: 25
6 AP's, 4 honors, internships, varsity sports

Rejected. UCD was my first choice, too :( I visited, loved it, my counselor said it was a really good match for me. I applied for an environmental major.

Um... 3.8gpa 1780sats? That's low, even for davis...

^^
thats not low you twit with those states ucd should be a target school for them

Nikki, you may be resentful because of the decision you were given for Davis, but your name-calling and "I didn't want to go there anyway!" attitude is extremely immature. You may be frustrated, but don't take it out on others. If you really didn't want to go to Davis, you would've stopped paying attention to this sub-forum a long time ago.

I do agree that a 3.8 with over 1700 SAT's would have most likely gotten you in last year, though.

stats***

it just sucks that there were a lot of applicants this year.

and i really didn't want to go there anyway haha its just that my college counselor (who is an idiot) said that I would get into UCD no problem, and me, being my silly little self, believed him. so rejection from what he said was a safety school sets a great mood for the rest of my college admission month. woo

I'm not sure why you listened to a counselor who advised you that UCD would be a safety for UCSB. It is common knowledge that they are both mid-tier UC's and have a very similar applicant pool (UCI too). None of these schools could be considered a safety in relation to the others. Perhaps it would have benefited you to spend more time researching your options before devising your list of schools. I also have to agree that name calling in these forums reflects poorly on you. There is no entitlement for any student in the process of college applications and acceptances. It is unfortunate that you didn't gain admissions at a school you mistakenly thought was a safety for you. I wish you the best of luck with UCSB on Monday.

I see how it can be devastating for you. I wish you luck on any other decisions you're waiting for. If it doesn't work out accordingly, be optimistic about it ( you'll save yourself THOUSANDS by going to a city college for your general education courses and be able to apply for TAG which will basically guarantee admission as long as you satisfy the school's requirements). Either way, good luck! =)

this sucks bad... my friend with a 2170 SAT, 4.2UC gpa, good leadership (student gov, ect) was rejected. That can't be the norm can it?

i think i got accepted mainly because i am in the ELC porgram
but for some reason, this year, davis has rejected few elc students as well

but it is true that even if you didn't get into ucd, u still have a chance at other UCs that rank higher than davis

it is true. i heard that other uc's use a different point-based system which may give you a higher chance than others.

i know many ppl who even got rejected from ucd that got into higher-tier ucs in the end

I got rejected, though I got over that fact very easily, I am still kinda upset that other students got in(with lower stats). A student in my class got in with a 3.4 GPA and a 1300 SAT, wasn't really involved, and maybe had 2-3 AP all four years. Though I am happy for her, It makes me wonder why I did not get in with a better E/c and more APs. And another got in with a 3.0 GPA, was more involved. People, don't lose your hopes, you might even get in to a better university, best wishes!

^thats crazy

i can see so many qualified people not being admitted if the applicant pool is high so there's more competition...but that doesn't make sense if people with low stats are in.

i looked through all their stats last night, and based on them i should have had maybe a 15-20% chance of being rejected. and the unlikely happened

ucgpa:3.8,
sat1:2100,
sat2: 740,710,
major: bioe,
good EC's,

Did not make it to UCD, but made it to UCSD

damn good job. zeus_zx

collegemom, students DO listen to their counselors. It may be common knowledge to you that UCD and UCSB have a similar
applicant pool, but many high school students have been very busy with the job of being high school students and are relying, as they should, on their high school counselors. Disappointed students often "vent" on these forums. It seems to me that this is a very good and safe place to do just that.

If you look at the point system, stats have nothing to do with it. UCD point system gives a lot of point to other non-academic stuffs. Almost a +300 plus in SAT scores. So even a student who scores 2400 would not fare much better. Let assume there is such a person with a 2400, with less than perfect SAT2 scores, with perfect GPA(4.0), no honours, no APs, and take less than 35 a-g courses. Assuming no other activity that would bring any extra point. This person would not make the cut off either.

SAT1 = 2400
SAT 2 = 1400(700 Math, 700 Bio)

UC GPA = 4000

Total = 7800 and the cut off point is 8000.

CS, how do u know the cutoff is 8k?

I'm still trying to figure out how I got into UCSD but not here.

the Davis reject left me hopeless and i ended up getting into all the other UCs I've applied to so far.
