Rejected

After a month or so of anticipation, I lazily woke up this Saturday morning and decided to check the UCI portal. I saw a wall of text and all I got from it was that I was rejected… I have already been rejected from most of my schools, and the ones I am waiting on are impossible for me to get into(UC Berkely, USC, and waitlisted for Cal Poly Pomona). UCI has been the one school that I have been itching to go to and probably the only application I worked the most on. UCI is also the one school I wanted to go to for my major, nursing. Being a male, I already received some funny looks when asked about my major, but now I don’t even know what I want to do in life. Life is cruel, and gave me a kick in the balls(sorry if this offends) this morning. I’m probably not even going to bother with an appeal, hell if they’re going to do this shiz to me, they don’t deserve another single moment of my time.

I think that possibly the reason some people with high stats (higher than me, it seems, who got in back in Feb) just supports the fact that not everything always comes down to numbers. I had low SAT 2 scores and a low SAT score (1840’s) but I was apart of 3 Honor Societies and dedicated a year’s worth of time to fostering over 80 kittens destined for the gas chambers. I think colleges want to see personality, in short. And, btw, I don’t mean to toot my own horn, I’m just trying to figure out why so many high-achieving people didn’t get in while people with my scores seem to easily have gotten in. If you’re just a person with above-average scores, average EC’s (because everyone will have 250 hours), average sports, then you’re just one of the crowd. It seems like colleges these days are looking for that spark of humanity that shows you’re different, you have something to contribute. At least now I can say I feel more honored being accepted to a school like UCI and UCSD because they now seem a little bit more selective.

I got waitlisted, i thought i would be accepted but i guess not. Do you think i have a decent chance at SB if i got waitlisted at irvine, im pretty confused

i agree with goldenevence that it shouldnt just be about numbers.

NOLAN4, yes you have a decent shot at SB if you got waitlisted at I.

Extracurriculars have more weight than you guys might think…

Carriedto2400, male nurses are on the rise like crazy these days. My brother is about to become a RN, don’t let ‘funny looks’ discourage you like that.
What was the alternative major that you applied for? Nursing is highly competitive at UCI.

@junshik: Hah… my alternative major was Civil Engineering -_-

Rejected for Earth Science. Not appealing-i was accepted E.D. at Cal Poly so this doesn’t matter anyways. I did see much lower numbers than mine get in.
GPA-3.55 UC gpa(private hs)
ACT-27(30 superscored)
SAT2: average
Essay: Personal hardship, so pretty good.
EC- 4 years of multiple sports, clubs, and service.

lol the worst feeling is knowing you got rejected but i CAN’T FIND my decision
it just says •Admission Status: Decision Posted
my friend who got in’s said •Admission Status: Accepted, i think
why can’t they just tell me flat out i got denied T_T

nvm i found it =] rejected
hello UCR

Wow you are all so DESERVING of an acceptance! Many of my friends who had lower stats then me got in! I was so mad. I am so depressed. UCI was my top choice. I think i am going to appeal though. But my friend who had a 3.9 GPA with a 1300 SAT score was accepted. This really sucks!

rejected w/ a 4.2 gpa.
wow. maybe it was my SAT scores or something.
but i got into UCLA with the same stats/essays,
so idk.

I don’t think so “iamsonervous” look at the post above, someone got in with a 1300 on their SATS…

This is total BS,
I had 2000+ SAT SCORE
3.8 GPA
A prediction of 38 Points on IB
400+ community service hours
My Essay was really really awesome
Captain of the rugby and soccer JV and Varsity teams

and yet, I got rejected… I reckon it’s because I’m out of state??

If someone really got in with a 1300 SAT then they were probably ASB president, basketball captain, and found a cure for cancer as well.

^ probably yeah. i’m still waiting for my decision but im sure im going to be rejected.
I have a low gpa (3.5), low SAT (1680) but +1000 hours of community services! -.-’ and captain of varsity tennis team since junior year…

how many applied to uci and how many got in?

“i havent been following what other admit stats were but yours seem right under normal for most years–>not enough for this year with budget cuts.
also, everyone seems to think they did “pretty good ECs and essays and extracurriculars” in general. keep that in mind when ranking yourself.”

Yes, I too believed that I maybe be a borderline applicant at the beginning of the process. But, if you go look at the accepted stats you can see all the low stats and “no EC’s” people who got in. Then people at my school get in with 3.8’s and 1800’s and like 50 hours being there only EC.

What do you want me to say?

Yeah. i noticed… i thought EC would be also a big part of the admission process but it seems that it counts for almost nothing now… oh well, i don’t even want to go to UCI anymore anyway…

Don’t fret. All the UCs are independent of one another. Stats are not everything. Character really matters. If uci is ur absolute top choice, then make an appeal. They already told you no so you got nothing to lose. At least you can’t say you didn’t try. If it doesn’t work out, then your probably better off somewhere else; if you still want to go, you can always transfer in the future. Just work hard and keep your head up high.

My stats were average, but I got in. Not sure why some of you did not get in, but I am blessed to have been accepted so far and hope Davis accepts me too. I’m not sure if it was my essays or not, but I did end up getting rejected from UCLA and to UCSD (7508/7744).

Very bummed out about my rejection…
3.86w
1850 SAT
2 Varsity sports
dam good essays.

accepeted to santa cruz…praying for ucsb tonight, god this could be a bloodbath.
