Crappy GPA f**ed me over for most of the UCs. lol. Guess it’s CC for me…

Son was rejected by UCSB and UCSD. Not surprised. He has a 3.8 GPA and 1920 SAT. He was accepted by UCSC - which is where he wants to go; however, UC is his first choice, and they don’t announce till tomorrow. I’m worried that, if UCSB rejected him, he won’t get into UCD.

Almost a 3.8

I know how you feel, 3.3, 2090, 760, 730. High test scores low GPA. It’s annoying to see people with high GPAs and low SATs accepted.

woww rejected as well…

so i did some research in 2008 ucsb accepted 23k students 23K!!! OUT OF 46K

THIS YEAR wowww 3900 ***?!!! stupid california recession

3900 is how much they plan to enroll. Most students who receive an offer of admission don’t attend (UCSB has a yield rate of about 20-25% historically), so admissions are given to 4 or 5 times as many students as enrollment spots.

However, it is tougher than before, especially due to the fact that UCSB overenrolled last year and has to make up for that this year.

^ if I had a nickel every time someone made this mistake.

3900 is the number of people they are going to admit in the end. They offer admission to lets say 23,000 people out of 46,000 (even tho it is way lower now-a-days). Of those, they have spots for 3900 (because not everyone who was offered admission is going to accept it)

lol sireeena, 23k was the total admitted last year, the enrollment target last year was 4300 I think. The 3900 is the enrollment target for this year, there is a difference.

This year they should admit approximately 18000-19000 Students.

^ Beat you guys to it  But yeah, UCSB has 2000 more freshman applicants this year competing for 200 less spots. The target enrollment last year was 4,100 but the school enrolled 4,587 students.

“I know how you feel, 3.3, 2090, 760, 730. High test scores low GPA. It’s annoying to see people with high GPAs and low SATs accepted.”

Well, at the same time, gpa counts for sophomore/junior year, and includes honors and ap classes. SAT is a 4 hours sitting. Common sense tells me that if you have a 3.3, which is B-, and the average uc gpa is 4.01 for SB, you have a low chance. People with high GPAs and low SAT’s have probably worked extremely hard, yet are not good test-takers.
People in that circumstance can also be annoyed of people like you, because they have worked hard throughout highschool, yet you would only needed to do good in a 4 hour test.

Thought i should put my two cents in this matter.

lol @ rc251
