Rejecting Admission Offers?

So with the deadline for accepting attending attendance to most colleges due in a few days, I must now deal with a far more daunting task than choosing where to go: telling all my other schools I won't go. So from my list of about 10 acceptances (I had way too many safeties) only 2 are left in contention and the rest will definitely be rejected. The only problem is I've lost basically all paperwork for these other 8 schools, so I can't find my letters of admission acceptance/rejection nor any information about my online accounts with them. While I could spend a long time tracking down this information, can I just not respond and have them assume they've been turned down, or can I get in trouble for not sending a firm answer?

You can let the deadline lapse and they’ll assume you’re not coming.

Send them a letter.

E-mail admissions, making sure you include your full name and your high school so they can find your file. Don’t simply assume that if you don’t send anything, they’d assume you aren’t coming. Think about it: If you hadn’t gotten any decision from colleges by April 1, would you have assumed you were rejected?
