Here’s something other people haven’t talked about much. You said you weren’t quite experienced/trained with the arts enough to go to art school. Even though Harvard is no arts school, the people who go there are extraordinarily talented and could be intimidating. At Pomona, you could hone your art (not to mention your academics) in an equally stimulating, yet less intimidating, atmosphere. Pomona all the way!
(and I’m on H’s waitlist)

Hey this thread was started LAST YEAR haha.

So then, I read through all the posts…well most of them…actually pretty much only the ones that concerned Pomona for the first 11 pages and then all of them after that, and it was AWESOME to hear the debate by everyone about which college to go to…it was interesting reading the snobby comments made by some people and the really open minded, “choose whichever fits you” comments that other people made. Overall, with all the great compliments made on Pomona, it made me REALLY proud getting into Pomona ^^. Actually, I’m kind of scared now that Pomona made a mistake in admitting me cause I certainly didn’t have as great of options as Grim Shogun did! I mean, my two options would be Berkeley or Pomona (I hardly think UCLA, UCSD is even worth comparing to Pomona), and right now, I’m learning full on to Pomona…just hope they’ll give me some great financial package =D.

HAY GUYS Haven’t posted in two years. I’m a sophomore now. Going abroad to study in Italy next semester.

Not once have I felt any regret for my decision.

I suspected you would do quite well wherever you attended. Congratulations and enjoy your time in la Italia. Drink some wine for us.

haha, wow, this has been a VERY interesting and insightful thread…I’ve surprisingly read EVERY message…I’m like 90% set on Pomona as my choice; UCLA being my other option…however, even though Pomona seems like a great undergrad institution, i can’t necessarily detest UCLA because of its amazing resources/connections…I plan on going pre-med, and UCLA has an amazing on campus Medical institute…I would appreciate any recommendations/comments

you’re my new idol Grim Shogun

I agree starchild! I actually read the thread this time, (I don’t remember posting on it and there was a star by it). This was a great debate! I love Pomona (although that Harvard deal looked pretty sweet haha don’t know if I could have passed on it) and its great that the OP went with her gut. I believe gadad was right on point in his/her analysis as to why.

I think the real message here, is that people who didn’t make it into Harvard should make themselves feel better by going to a good LAC.

Trollololol just kidding. I’ll never get accepted to Harvard =(

But after reading this I think I’m 90% set on Pomona, vs. the HYPS university experience. Thanks to all the posters who really broke this mentality of prestige prestige prestige.

Wow this thread was extremely helpful haha even years later. Thanks @“Grim Shogun”. It was tough at times to turn down the Ivy League for Pomona, but I’m definitely confident in my choice at this point and really excited to begin
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
And on that note, time to close this 7 year old thread. If someone wants to start a new one for the next admissions cycle, feel free.
