ok so today I checked my CMU admissions page and it said that "Application & Viewbook" has been mailed to me.

if they r sending that document, it pretty much means I am rejected, right? oh the date for the "Application Complete" is on Jan 12th and the date for "Folder Pulled committee read" is on Jan 15th. and the date for the "Application & Viewbook" is on Jan 30th. and also i got some student connections thing on Jan 27th.

what do you mean by “Application and Viewbook”? I didn’t apply to CMU but it seems odd that they would pull your application completely, especially without giving you a decision. Maybe try calling? It’s possible that your application was completed too late (I know Wash U pulled my friends app because his ACT scores were too late). Then again, I don’t know why the committee would have even read it in that case. I would just call or email admissions.

And it also shows my correct SAT, ACT, and SAT subject test scores under Test Scores.

The second set of mailings is an “error” they are giving you the info. they would mail a junior-- chill and wait until end of March for your decision. They probably did another mass mailing and just posting that on the entirety of the database-- it does NOT mean you were rejected nor does it mean you were accepted. It has no bearing whatsoever.

This is another example of how overwhelmed the CMU admissions staff is given another record number of applicants.

Your decision has been made-- (that’s what committee read means) but you don’t get to know until March with all RD.

Don’t call- you will just pester the receptionist who cannot give you your decision.

Frustrating-- but you will do yourself a great favor to stop checking that page until March 15 at the earliest. If something is missing in your folder, trust me, they will email you at this point.

thnx you. This really sucks that my decision had been made, I really wanted to submit my semester grades (semester ends on feb 4th) and I finally had my alumni interview yesterday. I just thought that they would help me. do u think they would reconsider the app once they get my semester grades and alumni interview report?

The decision might be “hold for semester grades”. If it was borderline that would happen.
Reality- they cannot read 20,000 files in one month or even 6 weeks-- and mid-year grade reports don’t even come out until late January. I suspect they are decent honest people wanting everyone to get a fair review-- so marginal files are likely set aside for those grades, while many others are probably already an accept.
Keep in mind, only 1/3 of all files are going to be accepted on average, with an even lower percentage for ECE and SCS.
As we all said, the content of the interview has close to no bearing on your decision-- it simply demonstrates interest in the school, and they know you had one scheduled.

I wish I could say some reassuring words or at least that you could enjoy life for the next two months without all the worry. Try to do so. (which I’m sure your friends and family have told you!)

My son has that listing as one of the documents they sent him last August. He applied in October. Don’t worry. They probably have a drop-down menu and someone clicked the wrong document or status. Or they sent the wrong thing. I’m sure it’s fine as long as it shows they received all your docs.

I am a little confused on your post. are you saying that IF I was a borderline applicant I would have "“hold for semester grades” show up on my status page?

I for one know that that’s complete BS. Folder pulled committee read means that the application file is complete and that it has been forwarded to the admissions officers, from the processing center.

Also, you cannot say WHEN a file has been read. It could have been read yesterday, on march 25th or even now… No way of knowing whatsoever!

Also, if you submit additional docs at this time they will get added to your file and the admissions officers will see the new docs

All we are trying to tell you is that it means your file is complete and someone pulled it.
They may have already already accepted it, rejected it or it’s sitting in a pile to have more info added…but there’s no way you will be told any of that.

At the end of march-- you will learn if you have been accepted or rejected.

There’s absolutely nothing to be read from these notes to the file as sometimes they are just plain incorrect or misleading.

Just please stop worrying.
If you have new information to share with admissions - a new award or success, then add it to your file.
They will read your midterm grades.

If you applied October/Nov – your decision is likely made (or holding for grades if borderline)-- they read files once they are complete. Sometimes a file doesn’t need to have midterm grades to make an obvious accept or reject decision.
If you applied Dec/Jan – your decision is going to be made between now and end of March.

After going though this last year with my son, my advice is, please do not read too much into it. When they say your file has been pulled for committee read, it means just that, it is considered complete and goes into a pile to be read. It does not mean it has been read or a decison has been made. Try to relax everyone and good luck!

Don’t worry about anything. Admissions do funky things and you shouldn’t be concerned about anything your application page may or may not say. Best thing to do is essentially forget about the application and be pleasantly surprised when you get the fat letter.
