3.83 unweighted or weighted?

weighted…which is pretty low compared to others, i know. but i just felt that my extracurriculars/recommendations/awards would have helped out.

Yeah I mean ur ec’s are good, but ur GPA is pretty darn low, i’m not sure an appeal would be worth it :

btw where else have you gotten into?

Pepperdine with a debate scholarship…and that was my second choice anyways…but i really wanted USC…

I’m also not sure if I should appeal… this is what I have to work with

My stats:
3.6weighted GPA
2140 SAT
770 Bio, 760 US History, 780 Chemistry SATII
5’s on all AP exams (bio, history, chem)
4 years marching band, section leader
member of constitution team, state champions, moving on to national competition
chief online coordinator and advisor for a charity (1 yr)
club historian (2 yrs)

My “compelling” additions that weren’t mentioned in original app:
Original website I created, designed, managed, and publicized that generates 3k revenue/month
Partner in server domain hosting that generates 1-2k revenue/month
Constitution team, won first at state, very likely 1st at national level
Letter of rec from a large donor to usc
Letter of rec from my constitution team coach

what should i include in my appealing letter?
i’m an international student.
I think the main reason that i was rejected is my sat(1620)…
but i have various activities and my GPa is not too low.
also, toefl has a pretty good grade

ETHEBUNNYGIRL:

DEFINITELY appeal! you have nothing to lose and admission to gain! my first choice was USC so there was no question i was going to appeal. i think if you appeal you have a really strong chance of getting in as a spring admit! your extra curriculars are very impressive, like you said, i think the only thing hurting you is your grades. USC often takes students with really good extra curriculars but lower GPAs in the spring to make their freshman fall stats more impressive while still accepting strong applicants. do you have any “new and compelling information” that you could include in a letter?

aside from all my ec’s

do you think this is compelling? I also didn’t include it in my app…

that I graduated hs two years ago received admittance to commerce at mcgill but stayed back to redo grade 9,10 and 11 courses after I graduated so I’d have a good gpa for USC?

yes… I am a bit crazy haha but if anyone thinks thats good enough to put in some sort of appeal lemme know, cuz hell I’m thiking of doing it…

goodluck to everyone else!!!:)

Can you include extra recommendations in your appeal?

Hi tbibbs & jdub - I’m new to CC. Tried to PM you, but do not think it went through. Thank you for willing to share your successful appeal letter. S applied to Marshall/Leventhal and is crushed with the rejection. We do not have much “new” info, other than his varisty volleyball team is ranked #6 is the nation by ESPN Rise this season, won the Redondo Union Invitational (28 SoCal teams competed) last month, and earned the best grades ever last semester (all AP courses with significant upward trend). SC has specifically asked for, via letter his mid-year grades and counselor report, so they have that info. I’ve heard the appeal success rate is very, very low for impacted majors in SCA and Marshall. Is this true?

We look forward to your assistance.

I would suggest calling or emailing USC to speak to a someone there. Ask them to check your app to make sure nothing was missing. Ask them about appealing. Maybe they will give you some insight into why your app did not catch their attention. If your academic performance took a tumble you need to explain this to the best of your ability. If you think of something that was not on your app that you want them to know. Include that. Pull out all the stops. If USC is your dream school it will be worth it! Send in your appeal with any additional material you think will make a difference and then accept one of the other great schools you got into and enjoy the rest of your senior year. Good luck! It worked for my son and his stats were not as good as most of yours have been.

i’ll be going in for hopefully music performance and for sure business
usc is my number one choice

jdub - thank you so much for the pm. I’m impressed with your drive and commitment, especially in driving to the next town to take an accounting class. I’m not surprised you won the appeal…if I was the adcom I’d make the same decision.

Sushimom

Does anyone know how the appeal works exactly? Who do they accept, people who want it the most or people at the top of the list? (or both obviously)

Is it okay to send in a letter of rec and other supplemental materials in the appeals package? Are any of you guys planning on doing so?

what can we send with our appeal letter, for marshall? help!

Don’t know if this has been asked before, but are supplemental teacher/counselor recommendations or photographs okay to send with the appeal packet? (I have great photos of me doing volunteer work related to my major)

'Cause sending just the letter with a transcript seems like the bare minimum…

same question as above?

Are appeals only for admission to USC itself? Is there an appeals process for SCA?
