I have applied as a transfer student. My first choice was McCombs and second one was COLA.

My EID status changed from reviewing on wednesday night to "After careful review of applications from a highly-competitive pool of applicants, we are not able to offer you admission. Approximately three times as many students apply each year as we are able to enroll." just now.

I know it's cleary saying that I didn't get accepted. But does it mean that I got rejected from both choices? BC I'm a texas resident with 3.9+ GPA. I don't believe it that I got rejected by COLA. I hope that it means that I got rejected by first one and they will send my application to the COLA. Does anybody know??

Hi thaisteak
yes, I have EC and LOR. I did everything I could.
What I’m wondering is that whether I got rejected by UT or only by business. I’m so lost.

I felt weird too…How can you be rejected with a 3.9+ GPA?
Did you call admissions office to ask about it?
Well, often times you don’t really know why you get rejected, that’s the so sad.

Toda is Saturday. They won’t open until Monday. It’s sad that today is Saturday and I have one more day to suffer until find out. I hope I can find out here before Monday then I can keep some hope.

Are you in-state and were you top 10 percent? I am out of state and got accepted (and will be attending) UT, but not my first-choice major. When my acceptance was posted on the EID said ‘Congratulations, you were accepted into your second-choice major.’

mtzgrl. I appreciate your comment. I’m in state. Yes, texas resident. I guess I didn’t get accepted either one of them. It’s so sad. I have tried so hard to keep my gpa and EC and all. I don’t know what to do now. UT was only school I have applied. I really want to know the reason why I didn’t get accepted. The worst saturday ever.

I think that this year the Economics major was more selective than years past because I can’t remember where I saw it, but I saw it online that there were a couple of people with 3.8+ that got rejected from Economics. That really sucks, because a 3.9 is amazing. I only have around a 3.48 and I’m really scared about being rejected from COLA Psychology BA.

Don’t be scared. tyler5627. I hate to say this to myself. “Everything happens for reasons.” But best luck on yours!

BTW, if I call them, would they let me know the reason why they rejected me? If because I haven’t finished the courses (main requirement; Cal I, II, Econ I, II),I have finished with cal I and Econ I. I will try again on spring bc I’m working on my cal II and microecon now. As far as I see, I can make As on both of them. If there was a different reason then I need to come up with plan B. I don’t even have one now though. Sorry for my scattering comment. I’m not being myself now.

I’m really sorry. It is very sad. UT is the only place I applied too, and I would’ve been devastated. It’s the horrible 10%/8%/whatever rule that doesn’t use common sense to admit applicants. I am #2/736 with a 4.75 GPA, community service and lettered in two sports… There are so many other places I would’ve been a shoo-in, but with Texas I was scared to death. The rule has ended up making UT less diverse, not more diverse as was originally intended.

I don’t think they will tell you the direct reason. I don’t think there is one that is written, but I think that could be a reason that the indicator courses are not complete. I def. think you should reapply after you finish those courses because with your GPA and after those courses are done, you should def. get in!

They must have had way too many applicants this year who have already finished the indicator courses because otherwise they would have asked you to send in your spring transcript with the calc 2 and micro economics grades.

Sorry, Austin. I really can’t believe you didn’t get in. I was in the exact same position as you. I applied to McCombs knowing that I didn’t really have a shot and had Economics as my second choice. I would have gotten into McCombs but I didn’t take any regular calc classes because all my other schools, TAMU, Baylor, TCU and SMU, all wanted a Busi. Math and Busi. Calc math sequence. My UT Page said, “Congratulations, you have been admitted to your second-choice major.” I had a 3.95 cumulative GPA through 75 hours at a CC, but I had a 3.8 with my GPA in transferable work. I’m a Texas resident and I WAS a Top 10% grad. I didn’t do any letters of recommendations or extra essays. When I talked to the admissions counselor, she said UT’s Econ program is getting ranked higher and a lot of the qualified applicants who don’t get into McCombs are deciding to do Econ instead of going to other business schools. Also, that its becoming normal for 3.7’s to get rejected for Econ. Hope this helps or is informative…

I don’t know anything about transferring into COLA econ, but I think this ^^^ is why you were rejected by McCombs (as ampzor said). I think that with a 3.9 GPA, if you try again after you have finished the indicator courses, you are likely to be accepted into McCombs.

derekallen2009, I appreciate your information. I try to stay in positive. I will visit the admission office and look what I need to do more. I will try to transfer in spring for ECON. Under my circumstances, I can’t leave Austin, maybe I can commute to Dallas. I wish I can apply other schools without limitation. What I’m trying to find out is that is that ok to reapply next semester after got rejected. I have no luck on that yet. Anybody knows? derek, thank you again and good luck on your future school.

Hi Mid, yeah, I hope that is the reason why I got rejected, then I know what I need to work on. It’s just hard to digest my result, but I still need to work on my current semester to get As.

Austinlover, I’m really nevours about the admission now. I’m an international transfer who applied the same majors as you (First major: McCombs, second major: COLA Economics).
The decision for international students will be released next week. My GPA is 3.95, I thought it’s competitive. however now I feel that I’m almost rejected :(

Wow, I am suprised that you rejected from McCombs derek. My friend was a transfer applicant last year and he got in with a 3.92. He had about 40 credit hours and had business calc, not regular calculus. This year must have been extremely competetive.
