I just received my rejection letter and was wondering why I got it so early even though I applied for ED II I was supposed to receive it around early March. Since I received this decision so early, I didn't get the chance to get interviewed by an alumni which was scheduled for tomorrow and they didn't review my midyear report too. I want to know what I can do to find a way around this so they can review my application again. Thanks.

I’m so sorry. Did they ask you to move to ed2? I think it was in the letter that the decision would take 3 weeks. Not sure if any school revisits applicants after the decision was made. Maybe you should talk to your guidance counselor on Monday and ask them how to handle it.

Take a look at this:
[University of Rochester : College of Arts, Sciences, Engineering : Office of the Dean of Students](http://www.rochester.edu/college/dos/conduct/appeals.html)

Act quickly because it says 7 days after receiving letter.
And remember the chance of appealing successfully is always slim.

in0va3,

It looks like you opted into the binding Early Decision II applicant pool. Early Decision II applicants received their decision letters as soon as possible once we received the Early Decision Agreement Form signed by you, your guardian, and your Guidance Counselor. (This typically takes 3 weeks.)

If you submitted your application before having the interview, you ran the risk of having the interview not factor into the admissions decision. MYR’s don’t usually arrive until the month of February, so if you opted into ED II in early January we would not have had access to your MYR.

ED II should not be confused with non-binding Early Notification. EN applicants will receive their decision letters around February 15th. Regular Decision applicants will receive their decision letters in March.

Feel free to contact our office to express your concerns. Also, please realize that the Admissions process is becoming increasingly competitive. We have received a record number of applications this year (increasing steadily over the past 6 years), and the freshman class size isn’t growing much at all. Unfortunately, hundreds upon hundreds of excellent applicants will have to be turned away due to class size restrictions.

ready2go - I think you posted a link to information about appealing a disciplinary decision, not an admissions decision.

I just find it odd that I haven’t sent in my midyear report yet and I already received a decision. And now that the decision is made I wouldn’t bother contacting the office since its only a slim chance Rochester would accept me. What bothers me the most is I used a lot of my time to research this college and received this rejection letter the day before I was going to be interviewed.

Also, I requested an alumni interview through MyRoc which was available to me after I submitted my application. I would’ve requested the interview earlier if I had known a decision was made but I checked MyRoc and it was still on the fourth stage.

I read the link but I’m not sure who I should write to. I just emailed the admissions office and I’ll try to see where I can go from there. Thank you for your responses guys.

ED decisions are almost always made without considering the mid year report. This because the grades come in too late (many schools don’t send them until Feb 1 or later) for the admission committee to consider them. Decisions are made well before then for both ED1 & ED2.

(Basically for ED1 or 2, only info the school has in your file on Jan 1 is used to make a decision about your application.)

The MYROC account isn’t definitive or 100% reliable. It often takes several days to a week or occasionally longer for it to be updated, esp during this time of year when the admissions office is very, very busy.

I’m sorry you feel you wasted your time. If you want to contact your admissions counselor to seek further clarification, here’s the link to map which indicates who is responsible for your region.
