Has anyone heard of anyone getting a rejection letter yet? Or, do these only start coming out later?

Well today Michigan State University did on-site admission at my school. Everyone I know who went were accepted. A few students I were surprised to know they were accepted and others not so much as they were on the borderline.

I didn’t give a good ideal of any of the students stats, but I was recently informed of one by a relative stating that one student got accepted with a ACT of 15, and a GPA on the low scale of 3.0. Surprised enough, she was also not part of on site admission but was accepted about 2 weeks ago. ( oh yeah she did not take any honors of advance clases because I would see her, so yeah there is still a good chance for those on cc with low stats)

Unless you have a special status i.e. you are from an extremely disadvantaged background or you are an excellent athlete being recruited to MSU, YOU WILL NOT GET IN with an ACT score of 15 and a GPA of 3.0. Just FYI. Don’t let Coolbrezze’s stories fool you. MSU’s average ACT is 25 and the average GPA is 3.6. So if you have stats lower than that, the chances of getting are lower than 50%.'

MSU tends not to send rejection letters out initially…they prefer to defer students instead, and then wait for their 1st semester senior grades and then send out a determining letter.

@fa-la-la-lena: if you have a 30 ACT, 3.1 GPA UW, and several AP classes do I have a decent chance? (I have a pretty unique background)

^^^I definitely think that you have a chance (although it is still a slight reach for you). A 3.1 unweighted isn’t great, persay, but as you took several AP classes and have a very good ACT score depending on your essay/a couple of other factors you could very possibly get in. It is not a sure bet but I’d say you have at least a 50/50 chance of getting in.

^ omg…what is this person talkin about… you are definitely overtalking MSU…what a joke school!!! lmao

^ omg…what is this person talking about… everyone always overtalks UMich…what a joke school!!! lmao

Dude, get off of our thread. We don’t go to the UMich thread and bash you guys. Get over yourself, a lot of us got accepted to both and chose to go to MSU. I know a few people with higher stats that got rejected from MSU.

Mori: You have a pretty good chance. What is your weighted GPA?

Our school doesn’t weigh, i dont know why, but i know it is very competitive in michigan. If you ever heard of Forest Hills Public Schools then you should know what im talking about. We don’t rank either.

One more question: Is this new Pre-med thingy at MSU hard to get into? I’ve been trying to look for a decent pre-med program

falalalena is definitely correct in saying that a 15 act + 3.0 will not get in. MSU is significantly more competitive than that, so that person definitely had some type of hook working in her favor.

I had a friend from HS who was deferred and rejected with a 34 ACT, 2.7 gpa, and the highest level math and science courses in our school district.

excuse you, MI2014, you haven’t even started college yet so please don’t come onto the MSU forum acting like you know what you are talking about. Just to let you know, the average ACT at MSU is 25 and the average GPA is 3.6. So although these stats aren’t as competitive as UofM, MSU is still a relatively selective school. If you could put the two-and-two together you would come to this conclusion…but apparently your (undeserved) superiority has overwhelmed any common sense you may have.

Moricarak: Don’t know anything about a “new pre-med thingy.” Sorry! Maybe if you were more specific?

Well, I heard in the news like a month ago MSU created a whole new medical facility and stuff. I was just wondering where I would apply to if I wanted to major pre-med.

New medical facility is one in Grand Rapids but thats in terms of medical school. There also may be a medical school campus in Detroit as well ( last I remember reading in the news also).

yeah so where would I apply?

Mori: I don’t quite understand what you are asking. I believe this new medical school thing is ONLY for med school and it has nothing to do with pre-med (unless I am misunderstanding something). You apply to MSU and put down pre-med as your major. You may also want to look into Lyman Briggs if you are interested in pre-med.

^
romanigypsyeyes is right

From what I’m informed the new facility is for medical school students, as a undergraduate you will be applying to Michigan State University as a undergraduate indicating interest in studying pre-med ( and x major), you may also possibly have interest in Lymn Briggs.

^ Coolbreeze is right “pre-med” is not an actual major (I believe) but you can put it down on your application.

alrighty thanks… i was a bit confused. thanks for clearing that up

my friend got a rejection letter today. 3.1 with a 21 ACT, some advanced classes and some extracurriculars. first i’ve heard of yet though.
