have there been any stories of rutgers denying a student because they felt as if they were their safety school? say 1500+ sat's, decent rank ~5, and lots of activities? In addition, the scholarship said cut offs were at the top 5% for the full scholarship... if i'm like... .2% out... that would bump me down 8000 bucks?

oh also, can a bad personal statement hurt me? i kinda wrote mine off another essay, really didn't want to seem apathetic and choose the easy way out...

You don't even have to write the personal statement..I'd call and find out about the rank...it sounds like if there was one less kid in your class or something you would make it...so who knows how kind theyare with that...but it is 8000 bucks for them

cujoe...I e-mailed them about ecxactly the same thing that you are asking about and i got a rather belligerent response.

They said something to the extent of "the scholarships are paid for by the state....they have strict guidelines...we are required to follow these guidelines...we are not going to break state rules..."

And about your first concern about exceptionally qualififed kids getting rejected...I am 99.99999% sure that they don't do that. I know four or five kids who got 1600's on the SAT, played varsity sports, had other good ECs...and got accepted to Rutgers with a full scholarship.

They do not reject overqualified kids like some schools do.
As far as scholarships go, yes they do stick to the chart. I took the SAT's 4 times because I kept getting a 1450-1490s. I finally got a 1510 on the last possible date. It's kinda dumb because on one math question I just flat out guessed and if I had guessed wrong I would have gotten a 760 instead of a 800 and lost $25,000 in scholarships! :/

they better not...lol...i dont wanna work to stay top 5%...although it might be hard to lose it...i can drop 10 spots and still be top 5% It may be suck if your just outside of 5..but i mean you gotta look at it from their point of view...its their fund money from the state. They already give out so much money..why would they wanna feel bad to you that you were two spots too low and just give you another 8000. Not that it doesn't suck. Although it may be true that you can still get the scholarship if you boost your rank by the end of the year...so start working your ass off.

waht are my chances if I got a 590m 610v and 570w, great ec's recs and Great essays? i have a gpa of 4.7, all honors and ap's top prep school in the state of illinois? I dont want to apply if im gonna get turned down no doubt.
