If you get rejected, do UCs tell you why they rejected you?
If not can you call and ask them? Will they tell you the reason so you can appeal? Within How many days you have to appeal from the time you get notified?

Here you go

[Let me google that for you](<a href=“LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You”>LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You)

I know people have called UCLA after admissions were out and were told why they weren’t admitted. Not sure about the other UC’s.

Thank you guys! Here is what I want to know though. When you receive your notification do they specify like, low gpa, or poor essay, or not enough ecs, stuff like that? I read someone who got rejected from ucsb being told that he was just not competitive. That could mean a million different things!
My interest is UCI if that matters. I haven’t been notified yet but I want to be prepared for whatever happens.
Also on one of the links on the let me google it for you it said deadline for appeal is April 15th… That doesn’t make ANY sense…

^ here’s a link from the AskMsSun blog, it may help you out re: appeals

Thank you.
Are recommendation letters considered in the appeal proccess?

I was just rejected from UCSB for having too many credits lol

Your application to the University of California, Santa Barbara for Fall 2011 has been received and evaluated. I regret that we are unable to offer you admission. Based on the number of transferable units you have accumulated, you would be a senior. As noted in our admission materials, UC Santa Barbara rarely accepts students with more than 130 units. In our assessment, you will not have sufficient time to complete our undergraduate curriculum within the allowed number of units.

FYI I have 92 semester units (22 from a 4 year university and 70 from a CC) so I was literally 2 credits over the cap.

^^^^^ OMG that is my biggest fear… I too have attended a four year… Abroad…
Do they tell you which classes they considered transferable, or are you able to check that using assist?
Are you going to appeal?
Thank you all for responding!

Omg wtheck you got rejected because you had too many units? Was it 92 transferable units or 92 total units? oh man ill have a total of around 90 also and if schools are rejecting on the basis of having too many units ill be screwed!!

You will only be considered a Senior if you attended a 4-year university besides attending community college. You can have as many units/credits as you want as long as you have only attended Community College. Basically if you only attended community college you should be fine.

I really hope they do give you a reason for rejection, even if you have to call them for it. Sometimes the admissions people make mistakes and think you’ve missed a prereq or whatever.

I knew which classes were generally UC transferable from the 4-year school (University of Delaware) by looking at the ones that transferred to my CC. I only took 22 units there and they were just intro gen ed classes & a language sequence. My total transferable units amounted to 92 (70 is the maximum you can transfer from the CC and 22 from the 4-year).

To fulfill the IGETC and all the prereqs for my major (3 bio classes/4 chem/3 phys/4 math) I needed all of my CC classes soooo I don’t really know what they expected me to do. It’s not like I can change the past and pretend I didn’t take that single class that set me over the limit. All the schools have different rules about credit caps. In my other post I put a link to a thread from a few years ago that seems to be pretty legit that explains the various UC’s take on this.

I don’t plan on appealing because I didn’t want to go to SB anyway. I figured they would overlook 2 credits but oh well. Honestly, I know I was rejected because of a rule, not because I wasn’t a competitive applicant, so I still have my pride intact lol.

Got it!
As for me I have no idea which classes will transfer and which ones will not. UCI doesn’t have a max limit of units you can transfer so I am hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

I thought all the UCs had the 90 unit limit cap from 4 year to UC?

Not UCI…

UCI: UC Irvine does not set a limit on the number of units an applicant may earn at a four-year institution before enrolling at a community college. It is important to note, however, that at least 36 of the final 45 quarter completed by a student for the bachelors degree must be earned in residence at the UCI campus.
