No clue. I know I signed up for a Student Checking Account at my local Chevy Chase and they would have easily given me the Student Credit Card but I didn't want it because I have no need for it.. and I make less than you a year. Hell, my girlfriend's sister had NO JOB, except random babysitting, before going to college and she got approved.

One last thing, are you a convicted felon? That's all I can think of.

Just curious, for those of you who got approved, can you share the interest rate you were approved for, and your credit limit if you're comfortable? I'm interested in getting a second credit card but it has to have a low interest rate and a line of $2000 or more, so I'm interested to see what others have gotten approved in the past.

well, i can't even check my credit unless i call transunion, since i do not have a history and thus they can't verify my identity online... and there is no way my parents credit was checked, and even if it was they have good credit... amex said that the reason was because i "do not have sufficient credit history" - but its a STUDENT credit card, what 18 yr old does?!

i said that i have an income of 8000$ dollars, with employment thru my dad (allowance <and no,="" i="" do="" not="" really="" get="" 8000="" just="" from="" my="" parents,="" work="" as="" well="">). i dunno why i'm getting rejected!</and>

i assumed they handed cc's to us. isnt it supposed to be ridiculously easy?

I know my S got a CC through 1st Bank Financial. Perfect limit for a new freshman (less than $1,000) but what is cool is that as long as you keep your balance under $250, they never charge you interest on the balance. not a bad deal to have the card for emergencies or small stuff and not get hit by ever increasing interest.

Actually, there is a big difference between credit cards (Visa and MasterCard for instance) and Charge cards (Amex Green). Credit cards allow you to carry ballances, essentually a loan while Charge cards generally require you to pay the balance each month. Both DO build credit history for you, but there is a world of difference between the twwo concepts.

well if you need a credit card, you could always ask your parents to make you an authorized user on one of their cards. if you pay them back, there should be no difference, and there is no credit check for something like this. i have been an authorized user since I was 13, and now have 5 years of perfect credit history.

just got ANOTHER rejection letter, this time from Bank of America.

"Your application was processed using a credit scoring system. The principal reason(s) for our decision are:
Credit bureau file does not contain enough current credit references*"

Being an authorized user on a parent's credit card does nothing for your credit rating. Since the original cardholder is responsible for ensuring payments are made, you get no benefit from being a cardholder on a parent account.

Try getting a credit report from any of the three bureaus. it will show that you are an authorized user on another account, but will contain no information about your actual credit, since you won't have any.

Credit is based on accounts on which you are the primary accountholder.

For the person who keeps getting denied, try getting a secured card. You will have to have a balance in a checking account equal to the credit limit of the card, but these are designed to help build credit for people who cannot get issued lines of credit.

Many credit cards have minimum income rates. For example, Citibank requires a $12000 minimum income (though their student card does not explicitly state that), and Discover requires a $15000 minimum income (student card excepted.)

Try calling the company and asking if having a cosignor will help you. This will usually cause banks to throw cards at you.

My personal card is from a local credit union. They issued me a low interest rate and an ok credit limit. I'm getting a new card though, probably from discover, to try to get my limit increased as I need to purchase a computer.
